Ah halftime! The time when we all look forward to getting more snacks, taking a potty break, or getting a good stretch. Sure it’s a chance for the NFL players to catch their breath, get a quick rub down, or for the coaches to make some adjustments to the game plan. But really, we’re all just concerned about using the timeout to our advantage. Therefore, how long is an NFL halftime.
Although, NFL sponsors appreciate the break too. They get to hawk all their wares and goods to viewers until you are sick to death of hearing their commercials. Which, of course, is why we use the time to see to our needs and wants.

So then, how long is the NFL halftime? Like many people, you may have assumed it lasted for 15 minutes. Because that’s how long each quarter of an NFL football lasts. However, according to the NFL 2022 rule book that is not the case. Between the second and third quarters there is a 13 minute intermission.
During this intermission, all play is suspended and the players are allowed to leave the field. And naturally the coaches and other team personnel also will leave the playing field. The Back Judge has the responsibility of timing the halftime.
If you’re wondering why it is only 13 minutes instead of 15 minutes, unfortunately, your curiosity will have to go unsatisfied. The NFL rule book is silent on that matter.
How Long Is Halftime In NFL?
However, if an NFL halftime is only supposed to last for 13 minutes how is it that the halftime at the Superbowl seems to last so much longer? Simply put it is because more time is required to set up the stage and break it down for whomever may be performing the halftime show.
Due to the logistics of stage preparation and deconstruction, coordinating the performance and organizing any special effects such as fireworks, likely the halftime will be of a 30 minute duration. But that’s perfectly fine because we need to let the cat out and take the dog for a quick walk anyway.
