Houston Texans Signed Nico Collins To Contract Extension
I’m sure this news makes quarterback C.J. Stroud extremely happy. The Houston Texans signed Nico Collins to a contract extension. Per NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the contract is a three-year, $72.5 million extension that includes $52 million guaranteed. The max value of $75 million. This new deal makes Collins one of the 10 highest-paid receivers in the NFL. Doubtless the Texans highly value Collins because they got this deal done before he would hit free agency next year.
Collins was drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons he dealt with nagging injuries, playing in 14 games and 10 games respectively in those seasons. However, he had a big uptick in production last season. As John McClain pointed out, “Under Ryans and Slowik, Collins exploded in his third season and became one of the league’s most productive receivers. He showed what a difference durability, a new coaching staff and a dynamic young quarterback could make in a receiver’s career – not to mention his bank account.”
McClain also added an note about how Stroud and Collins work well together. “In the last two games when the Texans were desperate to win, Stroud and Collins combined for 16 receptions and 275 yards, and the Texans won both games.” Despite Stroud being a rookie last season, he and Collins developed great chemistry. That’s something the Texans will want to build on for sure. Other stats put up by Collins last season include 80 receptions for 1,297 yards. And eight touchdowns while also scoring a two-point conversion in 15 games (10 starts).

One other note regarding Collins is that he became the fourth player in franchise history to reach 1,000 receiving yards. The other three are Brandin Cooks, DeAndre Hopkins, and Andre Johnson.
Besides locking down Collins, the Texans also inked a deal with former Buffalo Bill Stefon Diggs. If Collins can stay healthy next year and play all 17 games, then the Texans will be really dangerous. And Stroud will have more weapons than he knows what to deal with which is a good ‘problem’ to have.
