Houston Texans Kick Off Start Of Training Camp

Every year NFL fans get excited when training camp starts. It’s a sign that the regular season is not too far off. Now the Houston Texans kick off the start of training camp, being the first team to fully report in advance of the 2024 NFL season. Although the Texans’ players officially reported to camp today, they won’t hit the practice field until tomorrow, Thursday. It will be the first practice since the OTA’s that were held over a month ago.

Of course training camp is when veteran players have to prove that they should keep their roster spot. But it also allows rookies and fringe players to prove their mettle. Can they do enough to show the coaching staff that they deserve to make the team? In the case of the Texans we already know rookie sensation QB CJ Stroud is the man. His job is safe. That also goes for veteran starter left tackle Laremy Tunsil who is considered “The Gold Standard” when it comes to pass protection.

And the Texans have two exceptional Wide Receivers in Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Collins has been compared to former Texans great Andre Johnson and called a “generational talent”. Whereas Tank Dell as a rookie last year helped propel his team to the playoffs. But the riches just keep coming because the Texans added WR stud Stefon Diggs and “tough as nails” running back Joe Mixon to the team. The Texans look to be shaping up to be an explosive offense for the 2024 season.

Will Anderson won the 2023 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, the Texans also upgraded the defense with the addition of Danielle Hunter. Per head coach DeMeco Ryans, the two Pro Bowlers have quickly developed a connection.

Getting back to work before everyone else may be due to the Pro Football Hall of Fame game. In just two weeks, the Texans and Bears will meet up on August 1, for the first preseason game of 2024. The game will be played at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Kickoff time is at 5:00 PM ET and will be aired on ESPN and ABC.

The Texans came on strong last season and made it all the way to the Divisional Round of the playoffs. So expectations for them this season are sky high. And that tough playoff loss to the Ravens has got to add some fuel to their fire. We’ll see if their training camp turns out to be an indication of how their 2024 season will go.
