Houston Texans Demolished Dallas Cowboys On Monday Night Football

Was the giant piece of sheet metal that fell after the AT&T stadium roof was opened a bad omen for the Cowboys? Only if you’re superstitious I guess. Either way the Houston Texans demolished the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. The battle of Texas turned into a surrender as the Texans ran away with the game in the second half. Before that happened the Texans had set the tone on their opening drive scoring a touchdown twice. Well the first one didn’t count due to an illegible man downfield penalty called on Laremy Tunsil. Nico Collins had taken the ball 77 yards for the nullified touchdown. But a few plays later, Joe Mixon ran the ball in for the 45-yard touchdown.

After the Cowboys’ opening return a fight broke out. There would be more of them throughout the game. A holding penalty pushed them back to their 18-yard line. After picking up a first down, the offense bogged down and they set up to punt on 4th & 9. However, it was a fake and the punter threw a pass but it was short of the first down. It was clear the Texans had prepared for a play like that. But just four plays later C.J. Stroud threw an interception and gave the ball back to the Cowboys. But they didn’t want the ball either as Cooper Rush threw his own interception five plays later. This time the Texans took advantage of the turnover and scored their second touchdown of the night.

On their next drive the Cowboys looked much more efficient and quickly scored a touchdown. They went six plays for 69 yards in 58 seconds. That was largely due to WR/ST KaVontae Turpin who dodged and outran the Texans’ defense. His speed is ridiculous.

After going into halftime down 17-10 the Cowboys did not score again. It looked like the fight had gone out of them by the fourth quarter. They had insisted on running the ball which the Texans’ defense had effectively shut down. The wide receivers weren’t getting separation when running their routes. And they even had trouble with the kicking game. The Cowboys had scored a 53-yard field goal in the second quarter. But shockingly their kicker Brandon Aubrey later missed a 40 yard field goal. Aubrey is usually one of the most reliable and accurate kickers in the league. Overall the Cowboys looked like they have all season, lackluster.

The Texans handily won the game 34-10. But they still need to play better if they want to compete with the Bills, Chiefs and others.
