Houston Texans Defeat the Chargers in AFC Wild Card Blowout Win
Los Angeles had a very trying and tough week back at home. But they came to the Saturday playoff matchup at NRG Stadium prepared and ready to do their best to make LA proud. However, the Houston Texans would defeat the Chargers in an AFC Wild Card blowout win.
The first half of the game was action-filled, but still low-scoring. Los Angeles got off to a great start. They seemed to march down the field with ease. Yet, once in the red zone, they could not get past the Texans defense. The Bolts settled for a field goal (35 yards).
Over on the other side, the Texans offense began the game by emptying the clip into their own foot. At first they could not stop turning the ball over. But they didn’t allow such mistakes to deter them in the least. Even as the Chargers added another three points to the scoreboard (39 yard FG); Houston kept on working to get hot. And towards the end of the second quarter that is exactly what happened.
Stroud seemed to finally find his rhythm and stepped up to make some key plays. Especially, at the outset of the drive that would finally lead to the Texans first points of the game. With Houston backed up ALL the way on the opposite side of the field; the Chargers elect to blitz CJ Stroud in hopes of getting a sack and ending the drive. They bring EVERYONE. But Stroud scrambles and keeps the drive alive!
However, with less than 60 seconds to go, Houston would finally change the trajectory of the game. CJ Stroud would connect with dynamic weapon Nico Collins for the 13 yard touchdown! Allowing the Texans to take their first lead of the game. Houston ends up going 13 plays, 99 yards to get the TD done.
With very little time left on the clock, the Texans are still able to get possession of the ball and head back down to score. They are unable to get a TD but they add on. Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 41 yard field goal is good. At the half, Houston is up, 6-10.
The third quarter started the same for the Texans. Turnovers. Plus, some penalties peppered in that would back up Houston, causing them to head in the wrong direction. But even with a plethora of mistakes the Texans are still able to capitalize. They drain over 10 minutes off the clock and tack on a FG. Ka’imi Fairbairn drills a 37-yard field goal right down the middle. It’s now 6-13.
The Chargers finally get the ball. But a very brief three and out ensues. A sack on Justin Herbert ends the possession. One of the issues the Chargers had during this game was converting on third down. By the time the fourth quarter began; Los Angeles had only converted one of nine third downs.
But the pain would only continue. The Bolts offensive efforts would continue to struggle. With around twenty seconds to go in the third, Justin Herbert throws a pick six, giving Houston a 14 point lead. 20 unanswered points put up by the Texans. Something would need to change fast if LA wished to comeback from behind.
However, the fourth would not start any better for Los Angeles. Herbert throws an interception and the Houston Texans capitalize with another field goal. Fairbairn knocks in a 30-yard FG, putting his team up 23-6.

Justin Herbert then does the impossible. The situation at first looks dire. He takes not one, but TWO sacks. And on 3rd and 26 throws for a TD!! Justin passes to Ladd McConkey for a 86 yard touchdown.
But the celebration wouldn’t last long. On the extra kick the ball is blocked and the Chargers’ kicker Dicker bats the ball down instead of catching it. The wrong move because the ball is live and collected by Houston and ran into the end zone. The Texans gain the max amount of points for the play (2 points).
Houston then works on draining the clock. With the run game they milk it down to below four minutes. Then Mixon runs it in to make it a three possession game, 12-32. And that’s how things would end. The Texans are the victors and will move on to the next round. A great playoff game, what was your favorite play?
