HISTORIC 2024 NFL Draft: 5 Quarterback Gone in First 10 Picks!
CRAZY! QBs were flying off the shelf faster than packs of Charmin during the pandemic. This year’s draft ended up being quite HISTORIC. The 2024 NFL Draft saw 5 Quarterbacks gone in the first 10 picks right off the board! Additionally, no defensive players are selected in the top-10 in the NFL Draft for 1st time in NFL history. Instead, there are 5 QBs, 3 WRs, 2 OTs.
Some other firsts include: LSU is the first school in the Common Draft Era to have a QB & WR selected in the top 10 of the same draft. Plus, 8 QBs/WRs are a part of the top 10 picks. Lastly, over 270,000 attend night one of the draft! Wild.
Nevertheless, getting back to the historical QB night. The number 5 may seem minuscule. However, it’s not when it comes to draft day. 5 quarterbacks being taken in the top ten is actually a record.
Furthermore, people probably wouldn’t normally even notice; because we’re so used to at least the number one overall pick being a quarterback in most cases and years. Since if a team did the WORST out of everyone during the previous year; most likely something isn’t working on offense. And they probably need some pop like an elite quarterback.
However, this year it seems like a lot of teams prioritized offense more so than defense. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed what many already thought. Regarding the rapid picking of QBs Schefter reports,
“At No. 10, the Vikings pick J.J. McCarthy. And now, for the first time in NFL history, five quarterbacks have gone in the first ten picks.”

Interestingly, the quarterback grab by NFL teams continues on just two picks after the top ten are all selected. The number 12th is also… you guessed it… a quarterback. QB Bo Nix goes to the Denver Broncos.
