He May Be Young but Dallas Mavericks’s Cooper Flagg Is Doing Big Things and Breaking Records
It’s easy to forget his age based on how well he is playing in professional basketball. However, Cooper Flagg (19 years, 74 days) is now the second-youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 career points. The youngest to do it was LeBron James (19 years, 41 days).
He also became the youngest player to record 10 assists in an NBA game, surpassing James by 18 years and 343 days. But hold on sports fans because we’re not done yet. According to ESPN Insights:“Cooper Flagg is the 9th player in NBA history to post 1,000 PTS, 300 REB, and 200 AST in his first 50 games. Since the 1976–77 merger, only Luka Doncic and Michael Jordan have done it. 6 of the 7 retired players on that list are Hall of Famers.”
So, it would appear that Flagg is on his way to a potential Hall of Fame career in blazing speed. Or at least a career full of numerous, notable successes. His rookie season has no doubt been an excellent one which makes sense as he was the No. 1 pick in the NBA 2025 Draft. And he has the No. 1 Draft pick bottle from Gatorade to prove it. In addition to Gatorade, he also has a deal with New Balance which he signed prior to the start of his freshman year at Duke University.

However, it hasn’t been all sunshine and roses for Flagg this season. He just came back after missing seven games due to a midfoot sprain. The Dallas Mavericks are not likely to make a season ending push to make it to the playoffs. So hopefully next year will be the year for the Mavericks to really make some noise. They’ll have Kyrie Iriving back and Flagg will have used this season to develop his professional basketball playing skills.
Meanwhile this season Flagg and Kon Knueppel can compete for Rookie of the Year! Knueppel has been having a stellar year too so maybe the two will be the next big rival in the NBA. We’ll be happy to sit back and watch.
