Green Bay Packers Claimed Another Former Dallas Cowboys Defensive Player

They didn’t bother to wait until the end of the season to release him. On December 30, they let go of Pro Bowl corner Trevon Diggs. He would have needed to clear waivers in order to become a free agent and sign with any team. However, that didn’t happen as the Green Bay Packers claimed another former Dallas Cowboys defensive player. This coming after the Cowboys refused to re-sign star pass rusher Micah Parsons. Just before the 2025 season began the Packers swooped in and traded for Parsons giving him a deal he couldn’t get from the Cowboys.

Ironically, Parsons suffered a season ending injury in Week 15 and was not able to finish the 2025 season. Now Diggs, as he wished, is signed to a playoff contender and can hopefully help out the Packers’ defense. The Packers have clinched the NFC’s number seven seed and Diggs will be eligible to play immediately for Green Bay. Although Diggs has had his own share of concerns with injuries. He’s played in just 21 games over the past three seasons, including only two in 2023 before suffering an ACL injury.

Back in July 2023, the Cowboys had signed Diggs to a five-year $97 million extension. The extension came after he had earned back-to-back Pro Bowls  and a 2021 first team All-Pro selection. But after getting his extension, the injuries came and he wasn’t able to be on the field much of the time. So it seemed that Diggs was headed for the chopping block at the end of this season. But as previously noted he was released on Tuesday this week before the last game of the season. Along with his $14.5 million base salary in 2026 but zero guaranteed money, cutting him was a foregone conclusion.

The good news is that Diggs and Parsons are back together again. They were, and still are, very close friends during their time together in Dallas. When Parsons was going through his contract negotiations with Dallas, Diggs was there for him. He stated:

“It means a lot, it shows leadership, it shows he wants to be here,” Diggs said of Parsons traveling to training camp with the team over the summer. “He really wants to be here, I’ve been with him ever since he came in, he’s worked hard, he’s earned everything, he’s earned every dollar, he’s performed on the field. So, you know, I think it’s time to get him done, make sure we can keep this thing together.”

Well it didn’t happen in Dallas but now it is happening in Green Bay. And if Diggs continues to get his wishes fulfilled then Green Bay will be hoisting the Lombardi trophy in February!
