Green Bay Packers And Right Tackle Zach Tom Reached Agreement On Contract Extension

The good times just keep on rolling for NFL players as another one gets a lucrative new deal. It was reported that the Green Bay Packers and right tackle Zach Tom have reached an agreement on a contract extension. That’s good news for quarterback Jordan Love who is expected to reach new heights at his position. Which he wouldn’t be able to do without adequate protection. However, the Packers were able to get the deal wrapped up one day before the veterans were scheduled to report to training camp.

Not wanting to get caught up in messy contract negotiations, Tom participated in the offseason program. He spoke about the issue last month saying:

“I don’t really think it’ll do me any good to sit out,” Tom said last month. “I’m trying not to worry about the contract situation. I’m just trying to do what’s best for the team. And being here with the guys, I think that’s worth a lot more than — the contract situation will take care of itself. So, I’m just here working and grinding with the guys. If I wasn’t here, I’d probably be somewhere just not doing anything, I don’t know. So, yeah, I want to be here obviously.”

His selflessness and patience paid off for him as he will begin the 2025 season secure with the knowledge of having a new deal. NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Monday that the tackle has agreed to a four-year, $88 million extension with the Packers. The deal is worth up to $92 million and earns him a $30.2 million signing bonus, the largest for an offensive lineman in NFL history, per The Insiders.

Tom is another member of the talented 2022 NFL Draft class and was selected by the Packers in the fourth-round. He would have been entering the final year of his rookie contract.

It had been in question if he would remain at right tackle due to some shuffling along the offensive line. However, now that he has reached an agreement he will continue at that position. Head coach Matt LaFleur recently spoke about his versatility stating:

“I think he can play any position,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said last month. “So it just happened to be that he kind of found his home at right tackle, but I think his versatility is one of the things that makes him special. I think he can play all five, and there’s not a lot of guys that can do that, but I would say that he’s got the athleticism. I think he’s a very intelligent football player, and he’s played pretty consistent over the course of the last few years.”
