And the signings continue in the NFL as the Green Bay Packers and Kenny Clark agree to an extension. Today General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter provided the details regarding the deal. “Packers Pro-Bowl nose tackle Kenny Clark signed a three-year, $64 million extension today with Green Bay, per sources. The deal was negotiated by @Wasserman agents @DHendrickson41 and @CJLaBoy and pays Clark $29 million in 2024 and could bring his career earnings to over $150 million.” This is the second time that Clark has signed an extension with the team. The first was negotiated in 2020 and with this contract he will earn $29 million for the 2024 season.
The former first-round draft pick was selected by the Packers with the 27th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Since he has been with the Packers he has racked up 34 sacks. That puts him 9th on Green Bay’s all-time list (since 1982). From 2017-23, his 34 sacks ranked No. 2 on the team in sacks (LB Preston Smith, 41½). His seven forced fumbles led the Packers. Clark’s five career postseason sacks rank No. 4 in team history (since 1982) and No. 6 in the NFL from 2019-23. He has led or tied for the lead on the defensive line in tackles in seven of his eight years with the Packers. And who wouldn’t want a sack-making machine on their defense?
Besides his quarterback sacking prowess, Clark is coming off his third Pro Bowl in the last five seasons. However, he has a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Hafley who joined the team this offseason. Will Clark continue with his impressive defensive play or will the coordinator change be an issue? That’s just one potential Packers’ storyline we’ll have to monitor.

However, Clark doesn’t seemed worried about the change. ESPN reported comments he made back in May. “It’s going to be really good,” Clark said in May of the change under Hafley. “It’s one of the things where all my career I’ve been kind of playing this way but in more of a controlled way. And I think now this is giving us a chance to shut all that other stuff off. Just use your ability and just go up the field and be disruptive. I just think with my get-off and how I am, I think it’s going to suit me well.”
Now that Clark is taken care of the team can turn their attention to their QB Jordan Love. They’ll want to get his deal done before the price goes up.
