Green Bay Packers And Jordan Love Reached Agreement

It’s been a week of getting paid, first the safeties and now the quarterbacks. The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love reached an agreement on a new contract extension. Adam Schefter posted details on social media regarding the deal:

“Jordan Love and the Packers have agreed to a 4 year $220M contract, that makes him the highest paid QB in NFL history. He also gets a record $75M Signing Bonus plus $155M in new full guarantees. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta & Andrew Kessler of Athletes First.”

With this deal Love joins the QB hierarchy in terms of salary. As Schefter pointed out, “the 2020 NFL Draft now has produced nearly $1.25 billion in quarterback contracts:

  • Joe Burrow: Five years, $275M
  • Tua Tagovailoa: Four years, $212.4M
  • Justin Herbert: Five years, $262.5M
  • Jordan Love: Four years, $220M
  • Jalen Hurts: Five years, $255M

I don’t know about you but that is absolutely insane to me! Not that I’m not down with anyone securing their bags, but these contracts are astronomical. I guess the salary cap will never be the same, lol.

Anyway, the Green Bay Packers have now locked down their franchise quarterback. And if I may, I’ll share another gem from Adam Schefter:From 1992 until the foreseeable future, the Packers have transitioned from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers and now to Jordan Love. They now have him for another five seasons. The Packers are the NFL model for quarterback consistency: 32 years and counting.”

I couldn’t agree more. Whenever a team has a franchise quarterback they have more success than teams who don’t. Once the Packers traded their former franchise QB, Aaron Rodgers, to the New York Jets the path was clear for Love to take the reins.

After sitting behind Rodgers for three years, he started all 17 games of the 2023 season. Things got off to a slow start as he went 3-6 in the first part of the season but he went off in the second half. He completed 70.3 percent of his passes over his final eight regular-season games. Throwing for 2,150 yards and an 18:1 TD-to-INT ratio while leading his team to a 6-2 record and earning a playoff spot.

Green Bay pulled off an upset over the highly favored Dallas Cowboys. So expectations for Love are very high going into the 2024 season. He has to show that he can continue to put up stats and wins. I think he can but only time will tell. Meanwhile Dak Prescott still hasn’t gotten a new deal. Will he be next?
