Gotham FC Wins 2023 NWSL Championship- Minority Owner Eli Manning in Attendance!
It was quite the battle, but in the end Gotham FC wins 2023 NWSL Championship over the OL Reign! An intense long-awaited matchup that many could not wait to behold; since it would place two greats, Ali Krieger and Megan Rapinoe, head to head.
The game begins with an absolute shocker! Just minutes in a player goes down, no contact; with an injury that is not only season ending, but career ending. Yes, the great Megan Rapinoe leaves the game in the first six minutes due to an Achilles issue.
Rapinoe reveals that is an injury she felt immediately. She feels it pop during play. Therefore, in the very last game of her momentous career; she knew she was out… for good.
Nevertheless, the OL Reign continue to play valiantly. They give it their all, never slowing down. However, their efforts are not enough. Gotham FC wins the NWSL Championship bout, 2-1.

While many soccer fans turn out for the big championship game, played down in America’s Finest City, San Diego, California. There was another familiar face in the crowd. Former New York Giants quarterback, Eli Manning.
Manning is in attendance with two important individuals who helped him to make the decision to become a minority owner of Gotham FC. His two lovely daughters… Lucy and Caroline. Even though Eli maintains all three of his daughters were influential. Therefore, that also includes Ava too.
Nonetheless, back in 2022, Eli Manning along with Giants Executive Pete Guelli; joins the Gotham FC ownership family and now the rest is history. In regards to becoming a part of Gotham FC, Eli states,
“I have lived and worked in this community for almost two decades. It’s home to me, and Gotham FC is my family’s favorite soccer club. Combine that with the organization’s strong leadership, talented roster, and sustained growth, and it became clear that joining this great group was a fantastic opportunity.”
Eli definitely helps get the soccer club get on the right track and in a short amount of time. When discussing Pete and Eli, Gotham FC Managing Owner Ed Nalbandian says,
“Having two people with track records like Eli and Pete recognize the value of our club and the strength of our brand speaks volumes about Gotham FC’s upward trajectory. Their investment, influence, and additional resources will allow us to be even more successful on and off the field.”
And successful they are! Gotham FC are now champions and great role models for young girls and boys everywhere. Hopefully, others like Eli Manning will continue to wisely invest in women’s sports.
