Golden State Warriors Reminisce the Legacy of Jerry West

When many hear the name, Jerry West, their minds might immediately think of the purple and gold. However, there’s another team and franchise that owes a sizable amount of their legacy to the actions of the late West. And Golden State is making sure that everyone knows about it. With the news of the passing of “LOGO;” the Warriors reminisce the legacy of Jerry West … a man that built a dynasty.

To begin, Golden State first shows respect at their home base. Chase Center put up a very nice remembrance honoring Mr. West. A nice photo showcasing the classic Jerry smile, with his years of life displayed below (1938-2024); he was 86 years old.

Nonetheless, if you don’t watch basketball you may wonder what exactly did Jerry do for Golden State. One word: EVERYTHING. We repeat, there’s no dynasty without his tenacity to fight for players and fearlessly make trades. He literally helped put things in motion before the Warriors dynasty came to fruition.

To recap what he accomplished in one sentence:

West traded Monte Ellis for Bogut; signs Iguodala, straight up threatened to quit if the Warriors traded Klay for Kevin Love in 2014; and he is instrumental in helping to recruit Kevin Durant. As most would agree, that makes him an absolute legend.

Furthermore, Warriors Co-Executive Chairman and CEO Joe Lacob shares his sentiments on Jerry West’s amazing career and what he meant to sports and him personally. Lacob states,

“Jerry West was an incredible and unique individual, having accomplished immeasurable heights in the game of basketball. He reached the absolute pinnacle of the sport as both a player and executive, something few can claim in the profession. He did so much for the NBA, the game of basketball and each of the teams he was associated with during his unmatched career, including the Warriors. Jerry had a profound and immense impact on our franchise and was instrumental in our recent decade of success.

Personally, as a child, despite growing up a Celtics fan in Massachusetts, Jerry was my idol and I loved him. To me, he was basketball… not just about the actual game, but he personified competitiveness. He was the most competitive individual I have ever met, settling for nothing short of greatness. He had to win.

It consumed him. He was bigger than life. He was an icon.

We are devastated with today’s news of his passing and extend our prayers and support to his wife, Karen, his entire family and the NBA community.” – Joe Lacob
