Golden State Warriors Grieve the Loss of Dejan Milojevic -He Was 46

Some very sad news to report today. The Golden State Warriors grieve the loss of Dejan Milojevic, a highly decorated player and coach. Milojevic was only in his mid-40’s… and is gone way too soon.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is among the first to break the story. Adrian reports,

“Golden State assistant coach Dejan Milojevic has died. Milojevic, 46, was hospitalized Tuesday in SLC in critical condition. After a decorated 15-year playing/coaching career, the Serbian native joined Warriors staff in 2021. He was a beloved figure in global and league circles.”

What a tragedy. Furthermore, this news does impact the game schedule. The Warriors–Utah Jazz game, set for 7 p.m. MST Wednesday at the Delta Center. Had been postponed shortly after the team announced that Milojević, 46, was hospitalized Tuesday night. Having suffered “a medical emergency at a private team dinner.”

The Warriors own PR entity confirmed this news with rapid speed. The team’s public relations department reveals,

“Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević (DAY-hahn mi-lo-yo-vihch) was hospitalized last night in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a medical emergency at a private team dinner. An update on Milojević’s status will be provided as appropriate.”

The team did in fact take care not to feed into any speculations or false reports; until more details became clear. Nevertheless, the unthinkable occurs. Milojevic unfortunately passes at just 46.

Regarding the sudden passing of a member of their coaching staff; the Golden State Warriors release this brief statement via social media. The NBA franchise states,

“We are absolutely devastated by Dejan Milojević’s sudden passing.

This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him.

We grieve with and for his wife, Natasa, and their children, Nikola and Masa.”

“The NBA mourns the sudden passing of Golden State assistant coach, Dejan Milojevic. A beloved colleague and dear friend to so many in the global basketball community. In addition to winning the 2022 NBA championship in his first season with the Warriors; and mentoring some of the best players in the world. Dejan had a decorated international playing career and was a distinguished head coach in his native Serbia. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Natasa, their children, Nikola and Masa; and the Warriors organization during this tragic time.”

Very nice statement. Moreover, the players themselves are feeling the impact from the loss of their beloved coach and friend. The Warriors, Brandin Podziemski, speaks out and highly about Dejan. Brandin says,

“You changed my life in such a short time. The most important thing you ever told me was to just smile! Your joy and laughs will forever be missed. Shine down on us from heaven. Rest In Peace Dejan Milojević.”

Yes, Dejan Milojevic’s effect on basketball is global. Guys from all over came to appreciate Dejuan’s talent and encouraging influence. He will certainly be missed.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, the Warriors organization and their fans. However, we would like to end with a quote from HC Steve Kerr. About Dejan, Kerr mentions,

“Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy.”
