Giants to Announce Hiring of Bob Melvin

Giants to Announce Hiring of Bob Melvin- Skipper Heading Back to the Bay

The last few weeks have been nothing short of a scene straight out of the movie, Twister. With rumors swirling and being tossed around about the future of the Padres organization. Talk of rifts, unhappiness and uncertainty. Now, the latest headline and development are the Giants to announce hiring of Bob Melvin as their new manager.

It seems just like yesterday that Padres GM, AJ Preller heralds to the masses that him and Bob Melvin are excited about 2024. AJ suggests cryptically that the pair are both on board to try to get the Padres back to winning and back on the path of bringing San Diego a championship. Nevertheless, Preller is not just saying something from his own personal thoughts and feelings. He’s just repeating what his boss wants.

Yes, Padres’ owner, Peter Seidler, had released a statement before Preller even had his now infamous Zoom presser. Peter confirms in his statement that he is recovering from a procedure; but wishes to have both Preller and Melvin back working together in the upcoming 24’ season. He firmly believes that not only is AJ Preller the epitome of “excellence;” but together, Bob and Preller are the winning formula to achieve a title.

Problem is… the two can’t stand each other. Sports journalists like Dennis Lin and Kevin Acee; (whom in all honesty deserve an apology from Preller, who claimed their reporting is false); tell the wild tale throughout their many reports this year. Tales of possible micromanaging and a strong, unfixable rift between the two men. Furthermore, while both Melvin and Preller started things as a united front this offseason. Stating that they would both return next spring. The cat is now out of the bag.

Bob is not happy. He’s willing to leave a stacked Padres team for the Giants who still have more kinks to work out in their roster and lineup. Nevertheless, when the Giants asked permission to interview Bob; neither the Padres or Bob himself, had any issue.

Therefore, Melvin goes and interviews. And now we are moments away from an official announcement from the Giants about their latest hire. Wild.

However, this now leaves a hole for the Padres to fill. They need a manager. Badly. Preller is now about to hire yet another manager. The number is around number five or six, depending how you wish to look at things.

But that many hires and firings would make any organization raise an eyebrow. Most GMs would never be around to make that many changes. Especially, without a trophy to show for it. Therefore, Preller is publicly showcasing his flaws.

Will he be able to show in the end that he’s been right about all of his decisions, both old and new? Maybe. However, next season will clearly demonstrate what’s in the pudding; because if he fails to succeed he may find himself in the same position as Bob Melvin… looking for work.
