Gavin Newsom and Governor Hochul Friendly Wager Over Dodgers-Yankees World Series
On Twitter, excuse us… on X. We are so used to seeing some exchanges between folks and fans over sports games and events. Everyday fandoms go at it; and oftentimes it is popcorn worthy. Well, two governors decided to get into all of the action on Friday. In a nutshell, California’s Gavin Newsom and New York Governor Hochul made a Friendly Wager Over the Dodgers-Yankees World Series.
Ah… nothing like a west coast/east coast rivalry. However, how did this all start? Well, New York got things going.
Hochul woke up feeling froggy and called out Newsom on X. She wanted to see if he wanted to make things more interesting based on who won the Fall Classic. What was the wager?
To us, it would be more fun if one state would have to pay the others taxes for a year, or have to exchange the Empire State Building for the Hollywood sign; but we are not making the rules here. Instead, Hochul suggested that the loser would have to decorate their office with the opposing team’s memorabilia. As one can see, Hochul is feeling pretty confident about New York’s chances. On X she writes,
“Here’s my wager to you Governor Newsom: If it turns out that I win — and I will — I’ll be requiring that you display some Yankees memorabilia in your office. If the opposite occurs, we’ll talk about that then, but I’d have to do the same for you. Let’s play ball!”

That’s a bold strategy Cotton; let’s see if that pays off for them. Sorry, we could not resist. Nevertheless, what was Gavin’s response? Newsom answers,
“Game on, Governor Hochul! While I respect the Yankees’ storied history, California knows how to win championships. As a proud San Franciscan, you won’t hear me say this often, but this year: Go Dodgers!”
And a wager is born. Well, Hochul… the Dodgers took game one. However, as we all know this series is FAR from over and anything can happen. It is still too early to see who will hoist the trophy in the end. But we do know that one Governor’s office is about to get a makeover for the day. Baseball is great.
