Former Titans And Patriots Player Is Hanging Up His Cleats

He was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. That Patriots draft class also included Devin McCourty and Jamie Collins. And today he announced his retirement. Logan Ryan, the former Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots player is hanging up his cleats. He posted on social media platform X that he was officially retiring from the NFL after 11 seasons. In his video he of course thanked all his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who supported him. But he also mentioned some of the things that happened during his career.

For instance, he mentioned the serious medical issue his wife experienced while playing for the New York Giants. Had not Giants trainer Justin Maher suggested she go to the emergency room for abdominal pain, she may have lost her life. There she was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy which can lead to life-threatening bleeding. Fortunately she received the necessary treatment and a tragedy was averted.

I thought this was a good reminder that football players are people too. They have to deal with the same crises and issues as the rest of us. But Ryan and his wife also started a foundation to foster, rescue and save animals, Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation @RARF_official. They even created a foodie fundraiser called Chow Down to raise money for the foundation. Guys like Ryan understand that there is more to life than their football careers.

And he had a very successful career. As a New England Patriot he was a part of six championship games. He also appeared in three Super Bowls and won two of them. As was mentioned above Ryan was part a very good set of defensive guys that were drafted in 2013. They all helped the Patriots to reestablish their dynasty.

Ryan played for the Patriots from 2013 – 2016 and for the Titans from 2017 – 2019. He then went to the Giants from 2020 – 2021, the Buccaneers in 2022 and lastly the 49ers in 2023. During his career he played in 154 games, had 755 tackles, 13 sacks, 19 interceptions and a whopping 98 passes defensed. And he played both cornerback and safety. Maybe the most ironic play of his career came when he was a Titan. In the 2019 wild-card game, he intercepted Tom Brady on his last pass with the Patriots and scored a touchdown.

Judging by the many posts on his X account he will be sorely missed by Patriots and Titans fans alike. But after a successful 11 year career he’s earned the right to start the next chapter of his life. Happy retirement Logan Ryan!
