Former Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Paid Visit To The Steelers

For the first time in his career, he is a free agent and can sign with whichever team is interested. Initially, it was thought that the Minnesota Vikings would want to bring him on since they had parted ways with Sam Darnold. However, the Vikings made it known that they are sticking with J.J. McCarthy as their quarterback. So with that information, former New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers paid a visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Today the 20-year veteran spent a significant amount of time at the Steelers’ training facility. As Adam Schefter posted on x.com:

“Aaron Rodgers spent about six hours at the Steelers’ training facility today, meeting with their coaches. It was said to be a positive visit, and the two sides will stay in touch.”

However, no deal was reached nor does one seem to be imminent. According to the Post-Gazette, Rodgers met with with coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Sources said the delay in reaching an agreement with Rodgers was not about money but more about him taking his time to make a decision. Apparently, the Steelers believe Rodgers can help the team end their eight-year playoff loss streak. It’s a win-now mentality rather than trying to groom a young quarterback.

But that doesn’t mean the Steelers couldn’t sign Rodgers to a one-year deal and still draft a quarterback in next month’s NFL draft. Nevertheless it seems experience is what the Steelers want at the position as they had shown interest in Sam Darnold who signed with the Seattle Seahawks. And their former quarterback Justin Fields left to sign with the New York Jets. So now Pittsburgh is in talks with Rodgers and have had contract parameters in place for weeks. But Rodgers will have to make a decision on if he wants to sign with the Steelers or not.

The New York Giants have also tossed their hat into the ring to vie for Rodger’s services should he decline Pittsburgh. Of course, it’s an important decision but some people are losing patience. Steelers’ defensive end Cameron Heyward said he’s tired of talking about the quarterback situation. He summed up his feelings this way on his Not Just Football With Cam Heyward podcast:

“Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple. That’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”

We think we can all relate to that! But we still will have to wait for Rodgers’ decision. As soon as a final resolution is made by Aaron we will pass on all the details.
