
Former Iowa Hawkeye and Caitlin Clark Teammate Lucy Olsen Makes Washington Mystics Opening Roster
Iowa continues to churn out professional ballers. Last year, one of the biggest stars to ever enter the league made her way to the Indiana Fever. Now it looks like another alumni will be officially joining the W. Sources confirm that former Iowa Hawkeye and Caitlin Clark teammate Lucy Olsen has made the Washington Mystics opening roster.
There were some rumblings that Olsen was likely a shoe-in. Especially, after numerous cuts revealed that she was still very much in the mix. Sports media personality, Kyle Huesmann reported, “The Washington Mystics have waived four players ahead of tomorrow’s roster deadline. It appears, for the moment, that Lucy Olsen has made the cut for the final roster. Happy for her if that’s the case.”
Well, just an hour later after Huesmann’s report, Lucy Olsen also had plenty to be happy about. It was confirmed that she had in fact made the roster. Popular Hawkeye sports columnist, Chad Leistikow, revealed that Olsen had made the cut ahead of the 2025 WNBA season. He says, “BREAKING: Source with direct knowledge of the decision confirms that Lucy Olsen has made the 12-player roster of the Washington Mystics.”
Mystics coach Sydney Johnson told the press that there is a lot growth for Olsen to still undertake. He does not currently see her in the team’s first group of starters, but will really look forward to her impact off the bench. It’s early in her career so there’s plenty time for more development.

So then, Lucy Olsen will soon play her first game in the WNBA. And she hopes to make an impression and have an effect whenever she is on the court. Olsen has always been an extremely hard worker, so we are confident she shall do just that.
Nevertheless, now that Lucy is an official member on the Washington Mystics squad. Olsen now joins Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and also Megan Gustafson as the 4th active Iowa women’s basketball player in the WNBA.
