If you take a look at Florida State highlights it is clear that this young man had been destined for big things. He had the talent, the drive and leadership qualities that are the perfect foundation and formula of a winning quarterback. However, tragedy would strike. An injury that would plague this young QB and forever affect the outcome of his professional sports career. Come forward in his playing timeline to almost May of 2025 and an official decision has been made; former FSU star and New York Jets 2024 5th-round pick Jordan Travis is retiring.

Travis had been one of the most electric quarterbacks in college ball. Travis threw for 8,644 yards, 65 touchdowns and 19 interceptions at Florida State in 46 games (38 starts). Many even saw him winning a championship or becoming a first round pick in the NFL draft. That is, before 2023.

At the end of 2023, Jordan Travis suffered an excruciating injury to his left leg in his final college game on November 18, 2023. Not only dislocating his ankle, but badly fracturing it. This left Travis doing his best to heal up and attempt to salvage a fresh start in the NFL. Eventually, in the 2024 draft he was picked up by the New York Jets as a 5th round selection.

This was still a good pickup for NY. If Travis fully recovers they have a solid QB option. In college, Jordan had won the last 17 football games he played. Imagine if he had done that in the NFL? The stuff of legends.

However, on Wednesday the Jets made the following announcement:

“Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State,” GM Darren Mougey said in a statement. “It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.”

Therefore, things have now changed. Jordan Travis is going down a different path. Closing one door, and ready to enter another. It was not an easy choice, but it needed to be made. In his official statement Jordan Travis writes:

“As I reflect on my jouney. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft.

I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career. To my family and friends— your unwavering support has meant everything to me. To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love — Thank you.

To my teammates—thank you for pushing me, supporting me, and becoming family. I am forever grateful for the locker room memories and brotherhood we built.

To the entire New York Jets organization – thank you for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to live out the ultimate dream.

On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.

It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust the Lord’s Plan above all else.

– “Many are the plans in a peron’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” —Proverbs 19:21

Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the ride.

With love + sincere gratitude,

#13”

For many college ball fans, Travis becomes one of the biggest “what-ifs” of the modern era. However, his college career will always speak volumes for itself. For the Seminoles, Travis is No. 2 in wins by a starting QB in school history (28-10). He also broke Chris Weinke’s school records with 99 total touchdowns 10,665 yards of total offense.

Yes, he was one heck of player. And an amazing young man off the field. We wish Travis only the best in retirement and look forward to seeing what he does next.
