Former Cubs MLB Player Sammy Sosa Issues Apology Statement: Did ‘Whatever He Could to Recover’

Chicago and one of their past stars seem to be turning over a new leaf this week. Former Cubs MLB player Sammy Sosa issued an apology in order to seek forgiveness for an era of baseball that was twofold. It brought fans unbelievable moments, excitement and thrilling plays; yet for the league it is time they wish to banish deep into the dark realms of time.

To most baseball fans Sammy Sosa has nothing to apologize for and doesn’t need to place blame upon himself. He was a class act. Played his heart out. And he just did what was ‘acceptable’ during that particular period of major league baseball.

Sosa was a 6x silver slugger, 7x All Star, MVP and blasted 609 home runs. And if you talk with most baseball enthusiasts you will probably hear them rattle off about Sosa’s elite three season performance. Sammy became the first player in major league history to have a trio of 60-homer seasons. In 2001 alone he went deep 64 times while batting . 328 with 160 RBI.

Yet, the events that transpired during his career eventually led to a strained relationship between Sosa and his former team. In his playing days, enhancing substances were rampant. However, Sosa now wishes to say sorry for utilizing such methods (which are now frowned upon) to help himself recover to keep his performance at a high level on the field. In a statement Sosa says,

“I left it all on the field for the Cubs and Cubs fans because I wanted to win and make the fans happy. I loved to see the fans at Wrigley in the Right Field Bleachers every home game.

I understand why some players in my era don’t always get the recognition that our stats deserve.

There were times I did whatever I could to recover from injuries in an effort to keep my strength up to perform over 162 games. I never broke any laws, but in hindsight, I made mistakes and I apologize.

We accomplished great things as a team, and I worked extremely hard in the batting cage to become a great hitter. Cubs fans are the best in the world, and I hope that the fans, the cubs and I can all come together again and move forward. We cant change the past, but the future is bright. In my heart, I have always been a Cub and can’t wait to see Cubs fans again!”

The Cubs organization also had a message for Sammy Sosa and their fans. Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts released a statement on Sammy Sosa that reads as follows:

“We appreciate Sammy releasing his statement and for reaching out. No one played harder or wanted to win more. Nobody’s perfect but we never doubted his passion for the game and the Cubs.

It is an understatement to say that Sammy is a fan favorite. We plan on inviting him to the 2025 Cubs Convention and, while it is short notice, we hope that he can attend. We are all ready to move forward together.”

Nice. Looks like both sides have come together harmoniously. And everything has been put behind them both.
