Flavor Flav Is Hyping U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team

Okay who had this one on their 2024 Bingo card? Nobody? Okay then I’m not alone. However, it’s true, Flavor Fav is hyping the U.S. Women’s water polo team and the men’s team also. As reported by the Athletic, Flavor Flav recently signed a five-year sponsorship deal to serve as the official hype man for the U.S. women’s and men’s national water polo teams. But how did this come about in the first place? It started with an Instagram post by long-time team captain Maggie Steffins.

In her post she described the challenges of a water polo player. Including that players typically work multiple jobs while pursuing their Olympic dreams. She called on her followers to watch and support women’s sports. Flavor Flav’s manager flagged the post and Flav answered the call by pledging his support. Recently Steffins and Flav appeared on the CBS Morning show and he expressed his admiration for the women who play the sport. He acknowledged that it’s a hard sport to play and takes a lot of endurance. So he was motivated to step in and help them out.

Steffins was asked what the energy was like having the best hype man in the world poolside. She said, “he’s always making us laugh, definitely brings a lot of positivity and that’s what you need. Especially while we’re training and we’re focused.” But she also issued a challenge to Flav, “I know he said he can swim, but I’m challenging him. We’re going to get him in the water and we’re going to test out his water polo skills.” I’d love to see that! However, Flav also promised to provide each team member a Virgin Voyage Cruise and $1,000.00.

Flavor Flav Is Hyping U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team

As great as the sponsorship deal is there is something even more important to note. The women’s water polo team will be competing for their fourth straight Olympic gold medal. That feat has not yet been accomplished by any men’s or women’s water polo team. And Flav intends to be there in person cheering them on. Also, Steffens will look to add to her record. She became the all-time leading scorer in women’s Olympic water polo at the Tokyo Olympics.

And we can’t forget about Ashleigh Johnson, who is making her third Olympic appearance with Team USA. Not only was she the first black woman to make the U.S. Olympic water polo team in 2016. But she is widely considered the best in the world at her position of goalkeeper. No doubt this a talented group of women and are deserving of our support. Along with Flav, let’s hype up these ladies as they go for the gold again.
