Fire Happened During Dallas Cowboys' Training Camp

Fire Happened During Dallas Cowboys’ Training Camp

They are one of six NFL teams to hold camp away from the home facility. They have held their training camp in Oxnard, CA for 16 years. But this year a fire happened during the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp. In 2021, the team took over the River Ridge Residence Inn’s 32 buildings to house players, coaches and staff. It was at the hotel that the fire broke out on Tuesday at 4:55 p.m. PT resulting in the Oxnard Police and Fire Department being called to the scene. They quickly contained the blaze shortly after arriving.

While that was going on the team was participating in a walkthrough several hundred yards away. Several staff members had noticed the smoke and notified the local authorities as well as the hotel staff. However, the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The Dallas Cowboys issued an official statement:

“There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif. The emergency was contained to one room that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.”

In spite of the fire, the team completed their walkthrough without any disruption. What caused the fire is still unknown at this point. So the Cowboys will depart Oxnard on Thursday returning to Dallas in preparation for their preseason finale. They will be hosting the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium. You can catch the game on NFL Network Saturday August 24, 2024 Kickoff – 01:00 PM PT.

In other Cowboys news, owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media yesterday. He expressed optimism that an extension with CeeDee Lamb could still be reached. Lamb is currently holding out since a new deal hasn’t been struck yet. However, only 18 days remain between today and their Week 1 game against the Browns. Jones stated:

“The facts are that I believe we’ll come together,” Jones said. “I don’t want to speak for him. That’s what I’m trying not to do, but we wouldn’t have offered him what we’ve offered him if we didn’t want him to be here.”

And like all 31 other teams, the Cowboys will have to cut down their roster to the NFL mandated 53-man limit by Aug. 27. Jones predicts some tough decisions being made – namely at wide receiver, defensive back and tight end.

At this time of year just about everyone is on the hot seat.
