Fan Plummets Over 20 Feet During Pittsburgh Pirates Game—In Critical Condition
A very scary situation. A fan plummets over 20 feet during the Pittsburgh Pirates game on Wednesday evening. Those in attendance as well as baseball players anxiously looked on in concern as medical personnel rushed to render aid to the injured man who was now in serious condition.
Cassidy Wood of CBS Pittsburgh reported at the scene. She reveals, “All of PNC Park has gone completely silent as we wait to hear what happened near the Clemente wall. Looks like a fan maybe fell over it and onto the track. Scene does not look good. Medics put the person on a stretcher and they’re being wheeled out now.”
News of the incident traveled fast via social media. Another fan at the game with his father, who goes by the name, Bobby K; just so happened to be recording an action-packed play with his phone in the seventh inning when the man fell over the railing near the Clemente wall. His video went viral online and clearly showed what happened from start to finish.
Bobby K captioned his video stating, “Wild week—my dad had a stroke Thursday, but made close to a full recovery. I flew in from AZ & took him to his first Pirates game in over a decade. In the 7th, McCutchen hit a magical go-ahead double. While recording, we unknowingly captured a man falling 21 ft. Prayers to him!”
But how does this happen? What may have led to the man slipping over the wall? Well, another witness at the game posted on social media platform, Reddit; giving his account of what occurred. He relates,
“I was sitting 5 rows behind him. He was drunk. Inning before he ripped his shirt off and poured half a beer all over himself.
He jumped up from his seat when the pirates got the hit, he jumped up so quick, while being drunk, he literally propelled himself off the ledge.
He didn’t do it on purpose and no one pushed him. He was there with his girlfriend, a friend and another lady. The friend ran to the lower deck in centerfield and jumped on the field.”

The Pittsburgh Pirates provided a statement about the fan accident after the conclusion of Wednesday’s matchup with the Chicago Cubs. The ball club’s statement says:
“Tonight, during the seventh inning of the game at PNC Park, an adult male fell from the right field bleachers onto the field of play.
Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care.
He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
As one can imagine, many were and still are extremely concerned about the man’s state. Will he be okay? Are there any updates on his condition?
So far, there has only been one from the Pittsburgh Public Safety page. The page mentions, “Pittsburgh Police VCU detectives are investigating after a male fell ~20 feet from the bleachers at PNC Park onto the field of play during the Pirates game. Pittsburgh EMS field medics treated him on scene until he could be transported to the hospital in critical condition.”
Critical condition does not sound good. However, we hope the fan pulls through and makes a full recovery.
