F1 The Movie is The Most Successful Sports Movie of All Time

Brad Pitt and Damson Idris just made history. Their high action film based on the intensity of racing just took the crown when it comes to sports movie productions. F1 The Movie is the most successful sports movie of all time.

This is no small feat everyone. Pitt and Idris had to beat out a karate kid, a draft day, a league of women baseball players, the longest yard ever, some animated cars; a sports agent that wanted to be shown the money and some boxer dude named Rocky. However, in Rocky’s defense, if adjusted for inflation, he would still be king.

But if you just look at the box office totals overall, F1 is now the sports movie heavyweight box office champion. Yes, F1 has now beat out classic after classic. Great film, after great film in order to take the top spot. How much did it make?

F1 The Movie Box Office

The film opened with $144 million worldwide ($55.6M–$57M domestic) in June 2025. Setting records for an Apple Original film and the highest-grossing racing movie. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, received an “A” CinemaScore and was noted for strong international performance, with 69% of its revenue coming from overseas markets.

Furthermore, by July 25th (2025), F1 The Movie” had crossed $460 million at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing live-action sports movie ever. The term “live action” is very important. Due to the fact that F1 would still need to beat a cartoon juggernaut, Cars 2, which had garnered a whopping $560 million at the box office.

It took time, but eventually F1 got the job done. As of early 2026, the 2025 film F1: The Movie is the highest-grossing sports movie of all time, having surpassed over $630 million in worldwide box office revenue.

F1 The Movie is The Most Successful Sports Movie of All Time

“F1 The Movie,” made waves since it features not only superstars of the sport like Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, among others; but was filmed during nine Grand Prix weekends. Additionally, fans of the sport also enjoyed learning that actors, Damson Idris and Brad Pitt actually drove the cars in the movie. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed to Today’s Becca Wood that they trained for three months. Bruckheimer reveals,

“Damson Idris, who’s a rising young star, had to drive in these cars and train for three months, just like Brad (Pitt) did,” Bruckheimer told Today.com. “But the brutality of what you go through in these cars that are going 180 miles an hour — they have to break down to 50. They’re taking 5 Gs in the corners. It is brutal.”

Pitt and Idris suffered for their art. But they won the respect of racing fans and film fans from all over the world. And the proof is in the box office numbers.
