Eagles And Bills Last Of The Undefeated Teams Fell To Their Opponents In Week 5

Once again the team of the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins can relax as their record remains unbroken. It was a tough week for two of the best teams in the NFL. One of them couldn’t hold on to their lead in the second half. The other just played sloppily not in their usually efficient way. And so both the Eagles and the Bills, the last of the undefeated teams fell to their opponents in Week 5 of the NFL season. Let’s take a look at what unfolded for both teams on their way to experiencing their first loss of the season.

We’ll start with Eagles who appeared to have the game under control. At halftime, they had the lead 10-2 and in the third quarter tacked on another touchdown. But the Denver Broncos went on a tear scoring 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Giving the Broncos the 21-17 victory on Sunday afternoon. Usually the Eagles have been able to do whatever is necessary to preserve a lead or to take the lead in a game, especially in the second half. But that’s not how things went this time.

Part of the problem is that the Eagles offense missed out on several opportunities to keep drives alive. And also they were hurt by a few penalties and self-inflicted wounds. However, the Eagles are not going to allow the loss to derail the team. As wide receiver DaVonta Smith noted, “It’s frustrating, but we’re going to keep working on it and building on the things we did well,” said Smith, who had 8 receptions for 114 yards on 10 targets.

The Buffalo Bills faced off against the New England Patriots in primetime on Sunday night as the last undefeated team. But Patriots quarterback Drake Maye connected with receivers Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boute for some nice completions. Whereas Bills quarterback Josh Allen simply said, “We just played sloppy. We just did not play good tonight.” That was evident when the Bills had a chance to take control of the game. However, Allen threw three straight incompletions and had to settle for a Matt Prater game-tying field goal instead of a go-ahead touchdown.

New England then went on a seven-play, 37-yard drive. Rookie kicker Andres Borregales drilled a 52-yarder with :15 remaining. Winning the game 23-20 and closing the gap between them and the Bills to one game in the AFC East division. It’s expected that the Bills will bounce back next week against the 2-2 Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. But the Eagles will have a much quicker turnaround as they will play against their division rival New York Giants on Thursday night. It will be interesting to see how both teams handle the losses moving forward.
