Dylan Cease No-Hitter the Second in Padres History- Going Into Baseball Hall of Fame!
Before Dylan, there had been 323 no-hitters tossed in Major League Baseball. Despite that number which may seem like a lot, it is still one of the rare occasions that can cement a pitcher or team’s placement in baseball history. Which is why the HOF is now in the picture due to this latest accomplishment for San Diego. In terms of history, the Dylan Cease no-hitter is the second in Padres history and now some items worn by Cease will be going into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Dylan Cease came just 1 out away from a no-hitter with the White Sox in 2022. Luis Arraez broke it up with a single in the 9th inning. Which is so wild, since the pair are now teammates. Arraez rooted Cease on this time. And fittingly gave Cease the ball from his final out.
Nonetheless, what Dylan items will fans get to see on display during their next visit to the Baseball HOF museum? The historical venue has been able to snag both one of the balls; as well as Dylan’s baseball cap from the game against the Washington Nationals. During that particular series, the Padres sweep the Nats and then would feed off that energy as well as momentum; to go on to win the next series against the Baltimore Orioles.
Nevertheless, no-hitters are definitely something fans and especially, teams can take pride in. The Padres had never thrown a no-hitter from 1969-2020. They now have two in the last 4 seasons! Joe Musgrove gave San Diego their first taste of the no-hitter prestige. When he defeated the Texas Rangers 3-0 on April 9, 2021.
However, Cease’s no-hitter allows the Padres to leave the Bluejays, Rockies and Tampa Bay Ray’s behind in the 1 no-hitter club. And now join the Mets and Brewers having 2 in their franchise’s history. If you’re curious which franchise has the most no-hitters, that would be the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Chicago White Sox are the next closest with 20; and the Boston Red Sox have 18.
How does Cease feel about his achievement? Pretty darn good. He briefly talks about what the experience is like, since most of us won’t find ourselves in such a situation. He explains,
“You just keep going out there and putting up zeros. All of a sudden, you look up, and you’re one out away. Then all of a sudden, you’re no outs away. And you’re celebrating.”
But which pitcher hurled the most no hit games during their career? Well, we will let the Baseball Hall of Fame tell you. The museum reveals,
“On the same day that Rickey Henderson broke Lou Brock’s all-time steals record, Nolan Ryanmade history as well, recording his major league record seventh no-hitter. On May 1, 1991, at the age of 44, Ryan became the oldest player to register a no-hitter.”

So then, Dylan Cease finds himself in some great company. And he has time to try for another no-hitter. But for now San Diego can revel in this latest one, number 324 in the MLB.
Lastly, Sarah Lang has a good fun fact about Cease’s performance. She reveals, “Dylan Cease has 6 outings of 6+ innings, and 0 or 1 hit this season that’s 2 more than anyone else in a season since at least 1901; he allowed 1 hit in each of the first 5 … but not today! Dylan is the first pitcher since at least 1901 to go 6+ innings and allow 0 or 1 hit in 3 straight outings he allowed 1 hit in each of the first two…today? NONE.”
