Dodgers Take Game One in 2024 World Series
The World Series has commenced. West coast versus east coast. New York versus Los Angeles. And NY pinstripes and LA blue came out swinging. But when all was said and done, the Dodgers take game one in the 2024 World Series.
These two teams are very equally matched. They both have several power hitters facing off against each other. On Yankees side there is Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Judge actually hit the most home runs during the 2024 regular season (58).
And over on the Dodgers side there is Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez as well as the extremely reliable Freddie Freeman. Plus of course, cannot leave out Mr. 50/50 club, Shohei Ohtani. Shohei finished just behind Aaron Judge this season in terms of dingers. He hit a total of 54.
Well in game one, the home run made its appearance in the postseason yet again. There was no scores for the first four innings. However, in the fifth, the Dodgers finally got on the board thanks to a sac fly; going up 1-0.
But the lead would not last long. In the sixth New York flexed their bats. Giancarlo Stanton hit a 2-run homer putting the Yankees on top, 2-1. Now the boys in stripes just needed to hold onto to their slight lead in order to take the first game.
Yet, in the bottom of the eighth the Dodgers fight back! Ohtani hits a double to right field and then makes it to third thanks to a fielding error by second baseman Gleyber Torres. Mookie Betts then brings Shohei home by hitting a sac fly. It’s now 2-2. TIED.
During the top of the ninth, Gleyber Torres doubles aims to make up for his error. After an umpire review, it is determined that Torres doubled due to fan interference. The Dodgers next walk Juan Soto. With two outs, Aaron Judge steps up to the plate. But he is unable to bring home Soto or Torres. Judge pops out to shortstop Tommy Edman.

Bottom of the ninth the blue man do not score; therefore, it’s extras time. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is up first. He singles and also steals to second, then a bit later steals to third. The man was busy! Anthony Volpe is able to knock Jazz in, helping the Yankees to take a lead again. It’s 3-2.
However, that’s not the way the scoreboard would stay. Gavin Lux, Tommy Edman and Mookie Betts (walked) all end up on base. Then, Freddie Freeman hits a dagger right through the Yankees heart. Freeman walks it off with a grand slam in the tenth. Dodgers win 6-3.
Whew. And that was just game one! This series is going to be GOOD. The Yankees and Dodgers next face off again tomorrow.
