Dodgers Shohei Ohtani Injures During 7th Inning of World Series Game 2

Not good. One of the biggest stars in baseball and around the globe left the game leaving fans in a major state of concern. Los Angeles was winning with 4 runs on the board when disaster struck. The Dodgers Shohei Ohtani injured himself during the 7th inning of the World Series in Game 2.

Los Angeles has a lot invested in Ohtani. During the previous offseason they acquired Shohei in free agency; agreeing to pay out a whopping $700 million. A contract that would keep Ohtani in Dodger blue for an entire decade. Losing him would be a big blow to the top of LA’s lineup.

Shohei’s injury occurred during the seventh with the Yankees trailing by 3. As the Dodgers were looking to add on, Ohtani attempted to do what he had done successfully countless times throughout the year. Stealing a base.

During the season he had stole a base over 50 times. Therefore, this was just business as usual. However, this attempt would not go as planned. Some originally surmised that Ohtani may have injured his wrist. But, that quickly changed as a mic’d up Ohtani transcription began to circulate and spread like a forest fire. It clearly stated that it was not the wrist, but his shoulder. The conversation went like this:
Mic picked up on Ohtani:
“Shoulder.”
“Really? Which one?”
“Left.”
“Did it pop out?”
“I think so.”
This conversation emerged from the Japanese broadcasts covering the World Series. Newsweek’s Noah Camras confirmed the broadcasts’ authenticity. He reveals,
“It’s a shoulder injury for Shohei Ohtani, per Ken Rosenthal on the FOX broadcast. On the Japanese broadcasts, it was picked up that Ohtani said his shoulder popped out.”

Moreover, CBS Sports’ David P. Samson also backed up the Japanese media and the reports about Ohtani’s shoulder injury stating,
“According to sources (Bobby Valentine), Ohtani said in Japanese that “I popped my shoulder out.”
So far, things have been quiet in the Dodgers camp. There have been no updates regarding the seriousness of the shoulder issue. As Ken Rosenthal only mentions, “No word yet on the severity of the injury.” As intel comes in we will be sure to provide updates.
**UPDATE** Things that we know:

-Ohtani left the field with a trainer/then Dodger Stadium

– there is a manager update from Dave Roberts:

“Shohei Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. He’ll undergo further testing tomorrow, but his strength and range of motion are good. “We’re encouraged,” Roberts added.”

We will have more on this in an upcoming article.
