Dodgers Shohei Ohtani and His Wife Attend Lakers Versus Trail Blazers
What do champions do in the offseason? Apparently, they go to other sports events. At least that’s what this 2024 MLB MVP decided to partake in and he didn’t go it alone. On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and his wife were spotted attending the Lakers versus Trail Blazers matchup.
Ohtani’s wife, Mamiko Tanaka, no doubt felt quite at home. Having spent plenty of time on the court herself. Tanaka is a former Japanese pro basketball star who played for the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women’s Japan Basketball League from 2019 to 2023.
Nevertheless, Magic Johnson was among some of the first to comment on the athletic couple’s date night. Magic posted to social media platform X, stating, “Nice to see the World Series Champion and NL MVP Shohei Ohtani with his wife at the Lakers game tonight!”
Shohei and Mamiko were warmly welcomed by the Lakers organization. The pair didn’t just take in the game. They also received custom purple and gold jerseys with their names on them. And their respective jersey numbers. 17 for Shohei and 12 for Tanaka.
Ohtani and his wife were not the only famous faces in attendance for the Lakers latest game. LA fans could spy with their little eye, Matt Damon, Rich Paul, and Don Cheadle. So plenty of star power in the Crypto.com arena.

But what about the game itself? Los Angeles got the win with Lebron James sitting out. The Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 98-107; improving their record to 13-11.
The Lakers had been experiencing some bumpy losses as of late, including a 41-point loss to the Heat. However, it looks like the team used Ohtani as a bit of extra motivation. Well, at least Rui Hachimura did.
Hachimura helped LA end a 3 game losing streak by putting up 23 points against Portland. And after the big win he confessed that having World Series champion Shohei Ohtani in the house definitely helped propel him to play harder. Hachimura says,
“We both play in the most highest level in the sports leagues. Especially, here in LA. It’s like the biggest market here.
We both support each other. He supports us. He supports me. I support.
But [having him here] that definitely motivated me too. I want to win here. So [tonight] was a great moment. Definitely.”
Well it’s great to see two athletes push each other. And inspire each other. Plus, it was nice getting a glimpse of Ohtani since we’re still a few months away from another season of baseball.
