Dodgers Mookie Betts Fractures His Left Hand But Will Not Need Surgery

While many feel sports has now become pre-determined theater and is based on a “script.” What occurred in Los Angeles this weekend simply could not have been imagined. The ball club sustains not just one injury, but two (pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is on the IL with triceps tightness/but now revealed to be a strained rotator cuff). Nonetheless, the latest injury occurred during a Sunday matchup against the Kansas City Royals. The Dodgers Mookie Betts fractures his left hand but will fortunately not need surgery.

Not needing surgery is really the silver lining. Since we all are well aware that sports injuries requiring athletes to go under the knife; often results in way longer recovery timeframes. Since Mookie will not be needing such an extensive treatment; fans can expect him to recover much sooner.

However, recovery is one thing. Getting back to being ready for the game is another. So far the Dodgers have not announced or provided a certain return date for Betts.

Mookie was injured while making a plate appearance in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the Dodgers being up 0-3 over the Royals and one man on base; Mookie Betts gets DRILLED by a 98 MPH fastball from reliever, Dan Altavilla. Betts is immediately seen rolling and wincing in pain on the ground; with concerned fans and onlookers gasping in horror.

Immediately, manager Dave Roberts emerges from the dugout to check on Mookie. It was clear and quickly apparent that the Mookie could continue on. Betts exits the game.

However, regarding this weekend’s events Dodgers Insider reports:

“Dave Roberts said there is a fracture in Mookie Betts’ left hand. Roberts said Betts’ fracture will not require surgery. It will be rest and recovery.

Roberts gave an update on Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It’s a strained rotator cuff and he will not pick up a baseball for a few weeks. It will be rest and it’s not a season-ending injury.

Mookie Betts on what’s next for him: ‘I’m not sure. Im honestly not sure. Obviously, I’ll be watching the boys and cheering them on. Other than that, just kind of rest, maybe use it as a mental break and be ready to go whenever it heals up.’”

With the trade deadline approaching, we are sure the Dodgers will make the necessary moves to keep the team moving forward in the right direction. Mookie and Yamamoto are big losses. However, despite challenges the Dodgers continue to find ways to win and still sit on top of their division. Therefore, we hope both Betts and Yamamoto make fast progress, so they can get back to making an impact for the team.
