Dodgers Freddie Freeman Hits World Series Game 3 Walkoff Homer in 18th Inning
18 innings?! Yes, LA and Toronto were dead locked into an exhausting back-and-forth battle remaining tied for nine extra innings. However, a victor finally was crowned. At long last, the Dodgers Freddie Freeman hits a World Series Game 3 walk-off homer in the 18th inning. Freeman is the FIRST player with multiple walk-off homers in World Series history.
Game three was a serious pitching WAR. With basically both ball clubs playing two games in one since both teams could not seem to get the better of each other after the seventh inning. All scoring was over before the eighth began and no one scored again until WAY into extras.
In case you missed all the game action. Here’s what happened before extra innings:
- During bottom of the second Teoscar Hernández homered to left on a 2-2 count. Giving Dodgers 1-0 lead.
- Bottom of the third Shohei Ohtani homered to right on a 1-2 count. LA now up 2-0.
- Top of the fourth Alejandro Kirk homers to center on the first pitch, allowing Guerrero Jr. to score along with Bo Bichette. Andrés Giménez was out on a sacrifice fly to deep center field to Andy Pages. However, his sacrifice moved Ernie Clement to second and helped Addison Barger to score. When all is said and done, Toronto leads 4-2.
- Dodgers tie things back up bottom of the fifth (4-4). Shohei Ohtani doubles to center, which gives K.Hernández the opportunity to score. Then Freddie Freeman singles to the right, so that Ohtani scores.
- Top of the seventh Bo Bichette singled to right, then Guerrero Jr. scored. Giving the Blue Jays a one run lead.
- But LA would once again tie it up as Ohtani homered to left on the first pitch he sees. Shohei Ohtani is the first player in MLB history with 4+ hits and 5+ walks in a game (reg or post).
Then for several innings the scoreboard would read 5-5. That is until Freddie Freeman came to the plate bottom of the eighteenth. Freeman sees five pitches that would have him on a 3-2 count. But with the six pitch Freeman homers on a fly ball to center field! LA wins 5-6 and takes a 2-1 lead in the series.
Dodgers Freddie Freeman Hits World Series Game 3 Walk-off Homer in 18th Inning
Freeman had been the hero last year for the Dodgers in the World Series. Even being named the MVP. Therefore, Freddie is just continuing in his postseason winning ways.
But wow… what a wild night! If you are wondering how this lengthy game stacks up against other World Series games that lasted long into the evening. This particular Blue Jays-Dodgers 18 inning thriller ties the 2018 Game 3 – also in LA – as longest in World Series history. But buckle up baseball fans, Game 4 is tomorrow.
