Dodgers Freddie Freeman Announces Son Max Home From Hospital

A very scary, unsettling heath scare for the Freeman family; is finally transitioning into a situation with a bright light at the end of the tunnel. 3-year-old Maximus Freeman, had been rushed to the the Pediatric ICU due to a rare neurological condition (Guillain-Barré syndrome). A rare disease and condition where the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. It also can cause weakness and paralysis; preventing a person from being able to breathe on their own. However, after an 8 day ICU stay, some encouraging news can be confirmed. The Dodgers Freddie Freeman announces his son Max is now home from the hospital.

Freddie’s wife Chelsea released a brief statement via social media. She says,

“After 8 LONG days in the Pediatric ICU we are officially HOME! Max still has a long road ahead of him to regain his strength and relearn how to walk. But we are so thankful to have our family back together. Thank you God for this miracle.

Also, thank you to our incredible team of doctors and angel nurses for taking such good care of our boy. And to our village for helping so much with Charlie and Brandon.

Wonderful. Things began looking up for Max after being removed off a ventilator; and the removal of a feeding tube. However, Max still has quite the road ahead him in terms of recovery. But he is certainly trending in the right direction.

Freeman clearly still emotional over recent events regarding his son; also provided an update in his first presser since leaving his baseball team to handle this family emergency. ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez recaps Freddie’s statement on his son Max. Gonzalez reports,

“Freddie Freeman is back, wearing the #MaxStrong T-shirts all the Dodgers are sporting during BP. Clearly emotional, understandably.

‘[Freddies says], No one should have to go through with this, especially a 3-year-old. I don’t know how many times Chelsea and I said we wish we could switch.’

Freddie Freeman spoke for half an hour and detailed everything they went through over this last week or so. Most importantly, things are progressing well and Max is expected to make a full recovery. [Freeman] wouldn’t be here if that weren’t the case. He cried today when he saw the shirts.

He said Max has started physical therapy and, though he’s going to have to re-learn how to do everything; his personality has come back.”

We are definitely relieved to hear of the positive news and progress that Max is making. And it is equally wonderful to see the Los Angeles Dodgers banding together to show their full support in behalf of their player and his family. Furthermore, we continue to wish only the best for Freeman and his loved ones; and for Max’s full recuperation.
