Dodgers Dave Roberts Snubbed for 2023 Manager of the Year Voting-Math Isn’t Mathing
No one residing in the city of Los Angeles liked how the season ended. Or, how the postseason against the Arizona Diamondbacks went. However, winning 100 regular season games and you weren’t even meant to, should count for something. Yet, the blue men’s skipper is not getting any accolades after weathering a season also plagued with injuries galore. That’s why we believe that Dodgers Dave Roberts Snubbed for Manager of the Year finalist voting is complete bull.
Noah Camras who is a writer for Fan Nation, SI and covers all things Dodgers for Dodgers Nation; also seems to agree with our sentiments. He states,
Dodgers superstars Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are finalists for the NL MVP award. James Outman was named a finalist for the NL Rookie of the Year award. The biggest snub was Dave Roberts not being a finalist for the Manager of the Year award.
Dave Roberts had to deal with injuries to his entire starting rotation, played 16 different rookies throughout the 2023 season and still managed to win 100 games in a year the Dodgers weren’t even supposed to win the NL West.
Roberts not even being a MOTY finalist is criminal.

Roberts gets a lot flack and criticism. However, criticism aside, how do you not even make him a finalist in MOTY voting? This year’s baseball manager finalists had the same outcome in the postseason as the Dodgers (one and done) and yet only Roberts is excluded. The Brewers won 92 games during the regular season, the Marlins only 84. Marlins also did not win their division like Roberts and the Dodgers did. Can you say… snub city?
Blake Harris who writes about the Los Angeles Dodgers and is a weekly guest on ESPN LA; shares a few more interesting insights on Roberts. Regarding Dave’s 2023 season, Harris reveals,
The Dodgers had more days spent on the IL than any other team in baseball. 16 ROOKIES suited up for them. They weren’t the betting favorite to win their division.
They somehow finished the season with 100 wins. Yet, Dave Roberts wasn’t a finalist for Manager of the Year.”
A shame. A crime. However, that is sports, but one day Dave may just finally get his flowers.
Also, shout out to the MOTY finalists: Craig Counsell, Skip Schumaker, and Brian Snitker. Nothing against these guys AT ALL (this article is just to showcase a snub), they are all deserving as well and did a great job all year. Can’t wait to see who wins.
