Dodgers Continue to Struggle Against Astros After Historic Loss at Dodger Stadium

While many watched a popular July 4th movie about an alien invasion. Several MLB fans watched Houston invade LA; and it was not pretty. In fact, neither yesterday nor today has it gone too well for the blue men. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers continued to struggle against the Houston Astros after a historic loss at Dodger Stadium.

The Astros absolutely dominated during July 4th festivities. Putting up NFL numbers as they defeated LA, 18-1. This was not just any blowout either; it was one for the history books. This 17-run loss is the largest margin of defeat the Dodgers have suffered at home since moving to Dodger Stadium in 1962. The game is also reminiscent of the franchise’s worst home loss, matching a 19-2 defeat against the New York Giants in 1947 when the team was still in Brooklyn.

Nonetheless, Game 2 of this weekend’s series would go much differently. Los Angeles got an early lead before Houston did damage in the third inning, scoring multiple runs. Justin Wrobleski gave up four runs in a 32-pitch third inning that was keyed by doubles from Mauricio Dubón and Zack Short, plus a Miguel Rojas throwing error. Wrobleski had both Dubón and Short to two strikes, but couldn’t put them away.

Throughout the remaining innings of the game, both teams would score two more runs. But in the end Houston would again walk away as the victors. Winning 6-4.

However, LA still has plenty to be proud about this season. They find themselves on top of the league as reigning champions with over 50 wins and the best record in baseball. And this is despite dealing with numerous injuries all season on both sides of the ball. In pitching and batters in the lineup.

The Dodgers are poised to make the playoffs. And if the Padres, Giants or Diamondbacks do not catch up; will once again win their division. The extremely tough, wild wild NL West.

Lastly, they are heavy favorites to get to the World Series. Can they repeat? They have never gone back-to-back. Additionally, in MLB history there have been only 14 teams to win at least two in a row. Therefore, if they are able to be crowned champions again in 2025 they will not only make franchise history, but add to the legacy of the league.
