The Pittsburgh Steelers are making waves as they tinker with their offense. Yesterday we learned that DK Metcalf signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as today Justin Fields exits the team. Metcalf left the Seattle Seahawks for Pittsburgh and Fields left Pittsburgh to go to the New York Jets. There has been speculation that Aaron Rodgers, who was released from the Jets, could be headed to Pittsburgh to take on the quarterback position. Although there has been no official word on that yet. And the merry-go-round continues to turn.
Yesterday, Adam Schefter provided the details on the contract for Metcalf: “A new deal for DK Metcalf: Steelers are signing their new wide receiver to a five-year, $150 million contract, per sources.”
However, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero had additional information regarding the Metcalf trade.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired Metcalf, who is signing a four-year, $132 million extension, from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Sunday. The teams are also swapping 2025 sixth- and seventh-round picks, Pelissero added. Metcalf, 27, will now be under contract for five years and $150 million.”
The Seahawks have been very busy working on their roster. So far they have traded QB Geno Smith to Raiders for a 3rd-round pick. And cut WR Tyler Lockett, DT Dre’Mont Jones, DT Roy Robertson-Harris, S Rayshawn Jenkins, and OT George Fant. And now they have traded Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Furthermore breaking news indicates they have acquired quarterback Sam Darnold. We’ll have more on that transaction later. But for now, we have to talk about another quarterback Justin Fields.
DK Metcalf Signed With Steelers As Justin Fields Exits The Team
Fields is heading to the New York Jets with a new deal. Per
Adam Schefter,
“Sources: Justin Fields reached agreement on a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed with the Jets. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta of Athletes First.”
Last season, Fields started in place of the injured Russell Wilson, going 4-2. However, once Wilson was recovered Fields was benched and Wilson took over the starting position. That could have had something to do with Fields leaving the Steelers but I don’t know that for sure. At any rate, the deal will allow Fields to reunite with his former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is familiar with Fields having seen how he played when Fields was with the Bears and Glenn with the Lions.
Hopefully the team changes will work out well for both Metcalf and Fields.
