DirecTV Reps Respond During Disney dispute Backlash; What’s at Stake for Customers
This holiday weekend was a nightmare for sports fans desiring to watch their favorite live events. From tennis to football, and plenty of baseball; there was a nice plethora of matchups to choose from every day. That is until Disney Entertainment pulled the rug out. Leaving consumers at home upset, frustrated and in search for answers. Thus, causing DirecTV reps to frantically respond during this Disney dispute backlash.
In a span of several responses, Directv reps did their best to further explain the situation. Detailing what was done or offered before the sudden disappearance of Disney programming; as well as what Disney Entertainment is hoping to achieve or change through these negotiations. Here is a compilation of their replies:
“DIRECTV has not yet reached an agreement with Disney. This means Disney-owned channels, including local ABC stations in 8 markets, ESPN, and other general entertainment and regional sports channels are currently unavailable.
We proposed a multi-day extension to Disney on Sunday so that you could keep your content while we worked out a deal. They denied it. Despite their harmful actions towards our customers, we will continue to work towards a deal.
Disney wants to force you to have all its channels, even if you don’t use them. Not cool with us. The “one-size-fits-all” model is outdated. That’s why we’re fighting for greater flexibility, choice and value and the ability to watch all your favorite content in one place.
We want you to keep the networks you watch, too. That’s why we’ve been working behind the scenes to get a deal done, but Disney decided to put customers in the middle of business negotiations before the contract expired. We’re fighting for you.”

If you are affected by these negotiations between DirecTV and Disney, DirecTV does have a webpage you can consult for further information. The site once again reiterates,
“Disney is threatening to drop its content from DIRECTV unless you pay for channels that you may not watch. We’re working with Disney to reach a new agreement that will provide you with more flexible packages and lower-priced options in one simple experience. [Instead of] Disney airing the same programming across multiple Disney-owned channels at the same time like Monday Night Football. Forcing consumers to pay twice for the same content across multiple services to drive viewers to Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu. Moving your favorite content from one Disney-controlled platform to another, making you purchase them all. Disney is harming consumers.”
So far it seems both parties are not on the same page. And an agreement has not been reached. But the longer this carries on, the more anxious fans will become.
Fans want full access to all the sports they want to see. And if they can’t get it, they just might search for different options such as YouTube TV. Nevertheless, hopefully Disney and DirecTV can get their negotiations wrapped up soon.
