Detroit Tigers Open Season With 3 Consecutive One-Run Victories; A First in Franchise History

They’re on a roll. Plus, making some history along the way. The Detroit Tigers open the season with 3 consecutive one-run victories; a first in franchise history. Therefore, not a bad way to begin the 2024 season.

Last year, things did not exactly go Detroit’s way. Despite finishing second in their division (American League Central); they finish under .500. Winning only 78 games; while losing 84.

However, the ball club hopes to change the narrative and be a real threat and contender. And it’s happening, slowly but surely. If you compare 2023 to 2022’s wins and losses. Detroit won 12 more games in 23’ than they did in 22.’ So then, that’s improvement.

Moreover, the Tigers are off to an exciting start. Opening the season with a first in their organization’s history. To really help put it into perspective what this feat really means. The Tigers PR and communications page provided a nice brief explanation. They reveal,

“The Tigers won their third straight one-run game with a 3-2 victory today. According to Elias Sports Bureau, it marks the first time in franchise history that Detroit has opened a season with three consecutive one-run victories. The last MLB team to do so was Arizona in 2012.”

Nice job Detroit. So how are things going just a couple days later? The Tigers make even more history. Going 4-0 for the first time since… checks notes… 2015. Almost, an entire decade ago.

Therefore, Detroit fans, celebrate. Enjoy this hot start. Will it continue? Well, if it doesn’t, it won’t be from a lack of trying.

During the 2023 offseason, the Tigers front office were busy quietly making transactions. Signing Andrew Chafin and Jack Flaherty. They also made a pretty sweet trade for left fielder, Mark Canha; snagging him from the Brewers. Moreover, they also signed Kenta Maeda to a two-year, $24 million contract.

So then, the Tigers did get stronger. The pitching is a major step up. Therefore, if the trend continues this should be a fun season for Detroit, with hopefully a few more wins than last year to show for it.
