Detroit continues to keep their promises to all of their fans. Which was to be competitive, make the playoffs (they have done so in back to back seasons) and now spend. This week they are using funds to strengthen their pitching. Recently, the Detroit Tigers announced the signing of Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez. LHP Framber Valdez to a three-year contract and RHP Justin Verlander to a one-year deal.

MLB insider Jeff Passan reported on the signings of Justin and Framber. He mentions,

“With pitchers and catchers reporting for a half-dozen teams, players are flying off the board. Right-hander Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a one-year contract. Verlander, 43 next week, returns to the team with which he spent his first 13 seasons and whose hat he’ll wear in the Hall of Fame.

Star left-hander Framber Valdez and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a three-year, $115 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Valdez, 32, gets the highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher as well as the highest for a Latin American pitcher. Huge move for Detroit.

Framber Valdez was the best free agent left on the market, and Detroit gave him a $38.3 million annual salary. There is an opt-out in the contract after the second season, sources said. Valdez waited until he eve of spring training but wound up with a strong outcome regardless.”
