Detroit Lions Outlasted The Ravens In Baltimore On Monday Night Football
Everyone expected it to be a tough, competitive contest and expectations were met and surpassed. The Lions were clock-hoggers having 20 minutes of time of possession in the first half. But they didn’t waste any time scoring on their opening possession. While the Lions were more slow and methodical the Ravens were more of a quick-strike offense. But despite their best efforts the Detroit Lions outlasted the Ravens in Baltimore on Monday Night Football.
On their opening drive the Lions went 13 plays, 67 yards in 5:44. They mixed in a number of runs with a couple of nice passes from Jared Goff to wide receiver Jameson Williams. The drive ended with Jahmyr Gibbs running the ball into the end zone for the 1-yard touchdown. However, the Ravens answered right back with a 9 play, 75 yards drive that was under four minutes. Lamar Jackson found tight end Mark Andrews for a 19 and an 8 yard reception. Derrick Henry finished the drive with a 28-yard run for the touchdown.
Both teams then had to punt. But the Lions went on a drive that almost lasted 11 minutes. It was a 19 play, 98 1/2 yards drive that was aided by tough running. Along with tight end Sam LaPorta doing an excellent job blocking and catching crucial third down passes enabling the Lions to score another touchdown. The Ravens followed up with a good kickoff return at the Detroit 49. Lions’ kicker Jake Bates managed to tackle Rasheen Ali to prevent him from running the ball all the way back for a touchdown. Nevertheless the Ravens took 32 seconds to score their second touchdown.
The first half was a defensive disappointment for the Baltimore Ravens as they had trouble containing the run. And they gave up the 98 1/2 yard drive leaving them gassed. That hasn’t been typical of a Ravens defense over the last several years. But before the game was over they would give up another 90+ yard drive to the Lions.

In the first two quarters both teams scored a touchdown each and the same thing happened in the third quarter. The Ravens got the ball first and they took more time to score, a little over six minutes. Lamar Jackson threw a pretty pass to Andrews for the 14-yard touchdown. Whereas the Lions quickly scored their touchdown in 3:38. Goff threw an 18-yard bomb to Amon-Ra St. Brown for the touchdown. From there they scored another touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter on a 96-yard drive. Baltimore couldn’t match them and had to settle for a field goal. The Lions went on to score a field goal and another touchdown. The Ravens scored their last touchdown in 1:13 but it was too little too late and the Lions got the 38-30 victory.
With the Ravens defense being unable to get the Lions off the field they lost the time of possession battle. They will have to fix that to give Jackson more opportunities to be on the field. But it’s still early in the season so they have time to improve. Despite losing their defensive and offensive coordinators and six assistant coaches, the Lions appear to have adjusted to the losses. And will be a force to be reckoned with this season again.
