Detroit Lions Losing David Montgomery For The Season
They couldn’t get the running game going on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Now it looks like their running game will be seriously altered going forward. According to reports the Detroit Lions are losing running back David Montgomery for the rest of the season. He limped off the field in the second quarter on Sunday but was able to return to the game. His last snap came with 10:34 in the fourth quarter. Montgomery is part of Detroit’s running back tandem with Jahmyr Gibbs, also known as Sonic and Knuckles.
Against the Bills the Lions totaled just 48 rushing yards, their lowest total of the season. Detroit came into the contest averaging 151.1 yards per game on the ground, which ranked fourth best in the NFL. But for two weeks in a row the Lions haven’t been able to get their run game going. Now with the injury to Montgomery we’re left wondering if they will be able to reestablish their run game during the rest of the season.
Adam Schefter had earlier reported:
“Lions RB David Montgomery is now out indefinitely after suffering an MCL injury during Sunday’s loss to the Bills, sources tell ESPN. Montgomery is undergoing additional testing on his knee and getting a second opinion to confirm, but he could be lost for the season.” Then later confirmed: Lions HC Dan Campbell said RB David Montgomery will undergo season-ending knee surgery.”
“Looks like he’s going to require surgery that’ll put him out for the rest of the year. I mean, David’s so tough. He continued to play through and then got it checked out today and realized that’s what it was. He’s just the ultimate teammate, ultimate competitor. We’re going to miss him, man.”
