Defensive Slug Fest Ended With Bears Win Over Vikings
Both the Bears and Vikings offenses struggled. But the Monday night game was a defensive slug fest that ended with a Bears win over the Vikings. It was a tough night for quarterbacks Justin Fields and Joshua Dobbs. They were under pressure all game long.
Joshua Dobbs ended up with four interceptions on the night along with a few other near misses. To be fair, a couple of the interceptions were due to the receivers not catching and deflecting the passes. But in spite of those turnovers, the Bears only came away with one field. It also looked like the receivers were running routes that were too short. Instead of getting in position for the first down they were often a couple yards short.
Whereas Justin Fields lost two fumbles. And the Vikings finally scored the only touchdown of the game with the first fumble. Chicago also had trouble moving the ball. Either they were getting penalized or not able to complete any passes. When passes were completed they were usually short gains.
At least in the fourth quarter there was a little more offensive action. But that may have been because the defenses were getting tired. In the fourth quarter after the Vikings fourth interception they scored a touchdown on their next possession In under four minutes they moved the ball 77 yards. Dobbs found Hockenson with a 17 yard pass in the end zone.
Although the Bears followed that with a fumble the Vikings didn’t take advantage. Instead they returned to their offensive inefficiency. They couldn’t move the ball and ended up losing yards. Since they were at the Chicago 42 yard line they had to punt the ball.

Chicago got the ball back at their 22 yard line. They drove 61 yards and Santos kicked the game winning 30 yard field goal. All night long, defensive coordinator Brian Flores had been rushing and pressuring Justin Fields. But on the Bears last drive they didn’t pressure the quarterback and he made them pay for it. I’m not sure why Flores changed how they played defense on that last drive. Perhaps he will be asked about that later.
At any rate with :05 left on the clock the Vikings were on the field. They played hot potato with the football, passing it around trying to make a miracle happen. But eventually the ball was fumbled and recovered by the Bears. And that was a fitting end for the turnover filled game.
