Dave Roberts Statement on Four-Year Extension With Dodgers

When you win a championship, you tend to get rewarded. Managing baseball is a thankless job; when things are good, you’re a genius. When things are bad, fans want your head. Roberts has successfully navigated many storms in LA from aging players, injuries, media drama as well as scrutiny to getting his guys to overcome the bright lights of the postseason. Now the Los Angeles organization is showing appreciation for his efforts by keeping ‘him in the family.’ This week, Dave Roberts took a moment to reflect and provide a statement on his four-year extension with the Dodgers.

What Roberts has accomplished with the Dodgers is nothing short of special. He helped the ball club do something not seen since the 80’s. Win a full season championship.

While the team got close over the years, they always seemed to come up short. However, Roberts always believed in what the organization was building, the culture and what needed to be done. He stuck to his guns, his program and plans; and helped lead the blue men to glory.

But besides what occurred during 2024 playoffs, Roberts has helped the Dodgers be a force to be reckoned with during the regular season. The 52-year-old manager has completed nine seasons with the Dodgers. And in all nine years, Los Angeles has made the postseason. Additionally, Dave has guided the team to a cumulative record of 851-506, eight division titles, five 100-win seasons, four pennants, and, of course, two World Series titles — one in the abbreviated 2020 season and one last year.

No wonder the Dodgers had no problem backing up a Brinks truck for Roberts. He has earned every single cent. The team announced Tuesday night that Roberts is expected to earn slightly more than $8 million per year, or $32.4 million across four years (contract runs through 2029).

Roberts statement and thoughts on being extended reads as follows:

“I am excited and grateful to continue this great journey with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the best organization in sports. Building my relationships with the players and the fans has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it’s a privilege I do not take lightly.

I would like to thank Dodger ownership and management for giving me the opportunity to work toward more World Series titles for the Dodgers.”

Nice. Andrew Friedman, president of baseball operations had a few words on Dave as well. He states, “We could not be more thrilled about continuing our long-running partnership with Dave. As we’ve preached time and time again, continuity and stability are staples of this organization, and we are incredibly excited that this agreement allows us to maintain our focus of working together towards bringing more championships to Los Angeles.

The 2025 season kicks off in just a few days. With the Dodgers facing off against the Cubs in the Tokyo Series. This will be an exciting year of baseball and we will see if the Dodgers can repeat.
