Dave Canales Is the New Head Coach For the Carolina Panthers
The NFC South division has been very busy. Atlanta found their guy and so has another division rival. Dave Canales is the new head coach for the Carolina Panthers, the team announced last night. Canales will be joining Panthers President of Football Operations/General Manager Dan Morgan. The pair had previously worked together for eight years at the Seattle Seahawks. He was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023. He helped guide them to an NFC South title and a playoff win.
While with Seattle in 2022 he assisted Geno Smith in becoming a playoff caliber quarterback. Smith also became a Pro Bowler and NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Therefore, it makes sense that Smith had high praise for Canales. “He’s going to do wonders, man; I can’t wait to see what he does,” Smith said. “…going to do wonders for just guys in that locker room and just uplift them after having a tough season. He’s going to come in and have the right energy and the right mindset, and it’s going to be uplifting.”
Considering the Falcons offense finished dead last in the 2023 season, Canales has the experience to get it back on track. It’s no wonder GM Dan Morgan is enthusiastic about the hire. “I’m excited to work alongside Dave again,” Morgan said. “His background coaching multiple position groups has given him a great understanding of what it takes to build a successful team. His infectious personality resonates with players and everyone who comes in contact with him. I’m confident that will translate to the field.”

It sounds like Canales will be a great fit and was the perfect choice for the Panthers. And according to the teams’ website:
He becomes the only active Hispanic coach in the league at the moment, the second in franchise history, and just the fifth in league history following former Panthers coach Ron Rivera, Brian Flores, Tom Flores, and Tom Fears.
I personally, am looking forward to seeing how Canales works his magic on quarterback Bryce Young. Perhaps he will be just what Young needs to develop into a star. Congratulations coach Canales!
