Cowboys Trevon Diggs Suffers Torn ACL- A Major Blow for Dallas
The injury has now been confirmed by several sources. The Dallas Cowboys Trevon Diggs suffers torn ACL, and it wasn’t even in play during a live game. It was in preparation for Sunday’s match up against the Arizona Cardinals.
This is certainly not at all what the Dallas establishment needed from its star corner. A torn ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, is not an injury with a quick recovery time. It normally takes months to completely heal up from, with three months to six months being the bare minimum in many cases.
Of course, severity of the tear does come into play in regards to how long a player will be out with an ACL. If the tear is extremely severe then the recovery time unfortunately shoots way up and you’re looking at closer to six months to an entire year.
No team in the NFL wants to lose any of their professional athletes for an entire twelve months. It is an issue where the impact is felt immediately and leaves a hole to fill. Plus, it’s very tough on the fans. Most would agree, even if they are not Cowboys fans, that Diggs is definitely fun to watch. Therefore, this is a huge blow all around.
Trevon’s injury adds to the list of unfortunate injuries the Cowboys have suffered in recent years. Since 2020… Dak Prescott, Demarcus Lawrence, Michael Gallup, Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard and Terrence Steele; have all gone down with everything from an ankle sprain to broken feet. The Cowboys just can’t seem to catch a break.
Cowboys Trevon Diggs Suffers Torn ACL- A Major Blow for Dallas
Apparently, Trevon Diggs’ untimely trauma occurred during his practice time and session with the team. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was all over the incident and reported details about the situation via social media platform X (Twitter). Schefter briefly states,
“Cowboys believe Trevon Diggs suffered a torn ACL during practice today and he now will undergo an MRI to confirm the injury, per source.
[8 minutes later]… MRI confirmed the Cowboys belief, per source. Trevon Diggs suffered a torn ACL during today’s practice.”
Furthermore, Cowsboys reporter, Michael Gehlken for the Dallas Morning News had this to add:
“Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs was injured today early in practice during a 1-on-1 period, people familiar with situation said. He is currently being evaluated. Diggs was seen on crutches after practice.”
What’s Next?
Therefore, how are the Cowboys going to handle these circumstances? Well, Jane Slater, a reporter for the NFL NETWORK lays out the Cowboys plan for the future. Jane reports,
“So I’m told the plan in light of the Trevon Diggs injury (season ending ACL tear) is to move DaRon Bland outside, Jourdan Lewis goes inside and you got Noah Igbinoghene for depth per a team source.”
Bland is definitely the right choice to move outside. DaRon Bland led the Cowboys in interceptions during the 2022 season. Additionally, he already has an INT in the history books for 2023. So DaRon has things covered.
Nevertheless, this is still a tough break for the Dallas Cowboys who kicked off this season well. The team is currently undefeated, 2-0 so far, and will face the Cardinals, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers next. Our thoughts are with Trevon and hope he heals up fast.
