Cowboys Held On For the Monday Night Victory
The San Diego Chargers hosted the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. It was a battle but the Cowboys held on for the Monday night victory. Both teams scored a touchdown each in the first quarter. The Chargers had excellent field position on their touchdown drive. Starting at the Dallas 42 yard line, it only took seven plays to score. Dallas immediately responded on their next possession. With an equal mix of the pass and run they moved the ball 75 yards for the touchdown. Not much action happened after that until the fourth quarter when the competition heated up.
San Diego’s defense had a bad habit of letting QB Dak Prescott out of the pocket. He picked up a good chunk of rushing yards overall thanks to the lax defense. Once he started running they couldn’t catch him. On the other hand they had some nice pass breakups against the elusive quarterback. Holding the Cowboys to 20 points is respectable.
The Chargers’ offense was up and down. There were times when QB Justin Herbert had a receiver wide open but failed to make an accurate throw. Those incomplete passes really hurt the Chargers. There were points to be had if the passes had been completed. This ultimately helped the Cowboys to seal the deal.
As for the Cowboys offense, Dak and his receivers were on the same page. CeeDee Lamb racked up 117 reception yards. Tony Pollard had a good night with 80 reception yards. However, it didn’t translate into scores. On one drive they went 50 yards before turning the ball over on 4th down. Or they would move the ball but get bogged down. Maybe a sack, or a series of incomplete passes. Maybe they need to focus on situational football to get past this issue.
Cowboys Held On For the Monday Night Victory
At any rate I’m sure the Cowboys are happy getting a victory going into their bye week. The Chargers have good players and they can make good plays. The defense needs to play with more discipline, tightening up on pass coverage. But they did well sacking Prescott five times. If Herbert and his receivers can connect on more of those deep passes the Chargers could be dangerous.
Next up on Thursday Night Football will be Jaguars @ Saints. Trevor Lawrence is considered day-to-day right now so we’ll see if he suits up. The Saints will need to make the best of their home field advantage. A loss will drop them below .500. Be sure to tune in on Thursday night for all the action!
