Cowboys Beat Up On Buccaneers On Sunday Night Football
They found out they were eliminated from the playoffs four hours before kickoff. You would never have guessed that by the way they played. Tampa Bay fought gallantly but the Dallas Cowboys beat up on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football anyway. Maybe being eliminated made them angry and so that’s how they played. Or maybe they fought so hard for their coach whose job may or may not be on the hot seat.
At any rate the Cowboys started the game and ate up almost six minutes of the first quarter. Their longest play of the drive was seven yards and then it stalled at the TB 40. Kicker Brandon Aubrey nailed the 58-yard field yard field goal attempt. Tampa Bay got the ball and had some trouble running it. However, they got as far as 4th & 3 at DAL 48 and turned the ball over on downs.
The Cowboys went on a six play drive that included a 29 yard pass from Cooper Rush to Brandin Cooks. Jalen Tolbert caught the 10-yard touchdown pass, giving the Cowboys an early 10-0 lead. After each team punted the Buccaneers went on a 57 yard drive that featured a 26 yard reception by Mike Evans. And a 15 yard run by Bucky Irving who also scored the two yard rushing touchdown. Dallas responded with another touchdown and a field goal before the Buccaneers got their second touchdown. Meanwhile both teams were beating each other senseless. CeeDee Lamb’s right shoulder was giving him trouble after landing hard on it so he was in and out of the game. Aubrey hit another 58-yard field goal, leaving the score 14-23 at the half.

In the third quarter the beating continued with the Cowboys getting the better of the Buccaneers. However, both teams kicked successful field goals during the third quarter. The Cowboys started the fourth quarter with a punt, the Buccaneers punted also and Dallas had to punt again. With half the quarter gone the Buccaneers went into hurry-up mode and were moving the ball down the field. From 1st & 10 at DAL 46 Mayfield hit Jalen McMillan just shy of the end zone. McMillan rolled into the end zone but Jourdan Lewis got his hand in there and took the ball from McMillan.
But Dallas didn’t capitalize and had to punt. This time the Buccaneers went 87 yards in 10 plays for the touchdown. On their last chance to win the game Mayfield was pressured and he flipped the ball to Rachaad Lewis. Lewis had the ball stripped before he fell to the ground. Dallas kneeled on the ball to win the game 24-26. Maybe Dallas was just playing for pride.
