Cowboys and Giants Battled On Thursday Night Football

It was a clash between NFC east rivals and the teams seemed to be evenly matched. And that’s why the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants battled to the end on Thursday Night Football. The Giants won the toss and deferred. And the Cowboys went three and out.

On the Giants’ first possession they got down the field thanks to a 39 yard completion from Daniel Jones to Malik Nabor. But on the next play a face mask penalty was called on the Giants. Replay showed it was one of the Cowboys who grabbed a Giants’ face mask. The 15 yard penalty couldn’t be overcome and the Giants kicked a 52 yard field goal.

On the Cowboys second drive they had much better success moving the ball both running and passing. Dak Prescott was 9 for 9 on the drive. His last completion led to their first 15-yard touchdown caught by Rico Dowdle.

Giants’ WR Wan’Dale Robinson and Malik Nabor were good on the yards after catch enabling them to pick up first downs. But Jones was often holding on to the ball too long missing out on opportunities to get the ball to his receivers. That led to quite a few third and longs keeping the Giants out of the end zone. So they had to settle for another field goal of 41 yards.

The Cowboys scored their second touchdown in the first half on a 55 yard bomb to CeeDee Lamb. The Giants’ run game was practically nonexistent. They were averaging less than 2 yards a carry midway through the second quarter. And the officials were excessively flag happy in the first half. It felt like a penalty was called on every play. It’s a wonder the game was able to progress to halftime. At which the Cowboys led 14-9.

Neither team made any improvements in the second half. The Giants still couldn’t punch the ball into the end zone or get their running game going. The officials were still throwing flags but not as many in the first half. and the Cowboys couldn’t get in the end zone and settled for field goals. One of their field goals was a 60-yarder by Brandon Aubrey.

In the end Dallas missed a field goal and the Giants had a slight chance to try to score a touchdown. But it ended with an interception by the Cowboys who won the game 20-15. Defensive player Micah Parson left the game with what looked like an ankle injury. Malik Nabor also left the game with a concussion. Both players are impactful and would be a big loss to their respective teams.

In any case, both teams need to get better if they want to compete with better teams.
