Could Aaron Rodgers Reunite With Former Teammate?
Rumors are always circulating in the NFL world. Right now people are questioning could Aaron Rodgers reunite with his former teammate David Bakhtiari. David is the longtime offensive Left Tackle for the Green Bay Packers. And it appears that the Packers may release the veteran soon. Making the move to release him can save the team $20 million.
Bakhtiari is a three time Pro Bowler, a first team All-Pro twice and has played for 11 seasons. At the age of the 32 it may be time for the Packers to move on regardless of the money they could save. He dealt with knee injuries during the 2023 season. Insider Ian Rapoport reported on 09/28/2023:
“All-Pro LT David Bakhtiari was officially placed on Injured Reserve today following arthroscopic knee surgery yesterday, sources say. Another surgery is planned in the coming weeks, one aimed at allowing him to play at full strength in 2024.”
Even some Green Bay fans are expressing that it is time to move on from Bakhtiari. They argue that his health is too uncertain and the money would be better spent on another position such as Safety. At any rate it the Packers do release Baktiari then apparently the Jets may swoop in and scoop him up. Thus reuniting him with former teammate Aaron Rodgers.
If Bakhtiari can stay healthy then he may be able to assist the Jets offensive line. The line ranked 24th in 2023 and was the Jets lowest-ranked unit. On 7% of drop backs the Jets left tackles allowed pressure earning them a 29th rank in the category.

Given Rodgers advanced age in NFL years (he’s 40) a talented left tackle is necessary. Actually a skilled left tackle is every quarterbacks best friend. In Rodgers case, protection is a must-have to help prevent another season-ending injury like he suffered in 2023.
On the other hand Bakhtiari may decide to retire. As he has hinted before on previous occasions. At this point nothing is settled so we’ll have to wait and see how things progress. One thing is for sure however. The Jets have to improve their offensive line one way or another. That is not up for debate.
On a side note, the Jets plan to unveil new green and black uniforms in April 2024.
