Connecticut Sun Finalizing Deal to Sign WNBA Champion and 10-Time All-Star Brittney Griner

Connecticut Sun Finalizing Deal to Sign WNBA Champion and 10-Time All-Star Brittney Griner

Friday has blessed us with a Terrika BOMB. There is more movement among WNBA’s star free agents. Case in point, the Connecticut Sun are finalizing a deal to sign WNBA Champion and 10-time All-Star Brittney Griner to a “seven-figure deal,” per Sun sideline reporter, Terrika Foster-Brasby.

Griner, 35, averaged 9.8 PTS and 5.2 REB with the Dream last season. But even beyond the WNBA, Griner has made her presence known and felt on the global stage. Britney is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and has been a cornerstone of Team USA’s historic dominance, most notably scoring a gold-medal-game record 30 points against Japan in Tokyo 2020.

Nevertheless, now she will  join the Sun for the franchise’s final season in Connecticut before relocating to Houston. Due to her roots in Texas, it makes sense why she would be all in favor of joining the future Comets.

As Brasby reported on Friday evening, “BREAKING: Sources confirm the Sun are finalizing a 7- figure deal to bring WNBA Champion and 10x WNBA All Star Brittney Griner to Connecticut. Griner is a Houston native. With the Sun franchise moving to Houston, this gives Griner an opportunity to continue her career in her hometown, should the deal be multi-year.”

Khristina Williams of the In Case You Missed It podcast added, “Can confirm that the Connecticut Sun are finalizing a deal to sign Brittney Griner. Per source, Griner prioritized a situation where she can play a central role as she enters this next phase of her career. The move also aligns long-term with the franchise’s planned relocation to Houston in 2027.”

Therefore, this means that Brittney Griner’s time with the Atlanta Dream has come to an end. However, Atlanta has brought in some new blood to try and feel Britney’s shoes. The Atlanta Dream this week sent a 2027 first-round pick and 2028 first-round pick to the Chicago Sky for the two-time All Star Angel Reese and 2028 second-round swap rights.

Reese did not request a trade but the Sky worked closely with her team to find her a new home and that there was no contention between the two parties. Chicago is expected to be revamping its roster and to look completely different this season.
